I bought a 3130 last august with the BH90 and 723 FEL. So far the shaft in the hydraulic pump broke and two cylinders on the fronloader (left bucket and right lift cylinder) need replaced. The dealer proposed that the shaft was caused from the 3pt being locked in the up position (set by the salesman that delivered the tractor) while using the backhoe. This caused "spiking" that could have broke the shaft.

I never owned a tractor and the only question I have is,"does this seem normal for a 1 year old tractor?"

Is there a bypass or pressure limit switch on the FEL to prevent cylinder damage??

Something doesn't smell right here... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I don't know but would expect the hydraulic system to have a pressure relief valve for protection, and that if something was in the wrong position to cause system pressure to raise, the PRV should trip and offer protection.

Not a good thing for extended periods as it causes extra heating of the hyd. fluid, but where would "spiking" come from?

Something sounds wrong with what the dealer is saying...is he trying to push responsibility on you rather than repair under warrenty?

If they are repairing under warrenty and just speculating as to the cause that is one thing. If they are trying to get you to pay for the repair I would not accept that theory, and would suggest that it broke when it should not have and it should be fixed under warrenty.

Maybe the PRV valve itself failed and was not functioning, allowing system pressure to build excessively? Why do the loader cylinders need replaced? If they are bent, this could be another sign of system pressure being too high. This would cause excessive stress on the hyd. pump shaft and pump itself I would think.

Just a couple thoughts...

1.The dealer is replacing the cylinder under warranty.
2.The spiking is their best guess as to what caused the hydraulic pump problem. My tractor is not the first one to be repaired for that problem. They had one in the shop with the same problem at the same they were fixing mine.
3. Kubota dealers have a service bulliten not to repair the cylinders, just to replace (but they state that the cylinders are not faulty). Also, the service department at my dealer stated that I am not the only one needing the replacement.

I fear that once my warranty is over that I will still have these problems.

I will check the manual for a pressure release valve and appropriate settings.

You have to ask yourself the question is it normal to have what was described as the possible culprit to your situation as being normal. Once you have considered that, then you can start worrying. The situation you describe would not be "normal" if the tractor was 1, 2, 5 or 25 years old. Since you are the first to post such an issue that I am aware of, I would suggest your situation is either more or less unique to you or unique to something your dealer is doing and will need to have a service meeting on the appropriate way to install the hoe with regards to the 3 pt arms and position control. My "old" L48 required the 3 pt position lever be locked down. With a little over 230 hours on my L3830 with LA 723/no hoe, I have yet to have anything worse then running out of fuel happen.

Warranty: on L series 24 months or 1500 hours. 36 months or 2000 hours on drivetrain (4WD front axle assembly and all gears), clutch housing, transmission case, rear axle housing and everything contained within, pumps and valves associated with driveline operation. Emissions warranty includes injection pump, nozzle assembly, etc., etc. for 5 years or 3000 hours.

Dealer is finally sending a person out to replace the cylinder. I am getting two stories from the dealer:

From Sales: Service Bulletin is only to replace cylinder and there is really nothing wrong with them.

From Service: Kubota is aware that there is a problem with the cylinders and that is why they are to replace them and not repair them.

I talked to service on 06/11. The service department is not sure how kubota will handle the problem once the warranty is over. They have replaced most of them under warranty. But, they are not covered/allowed to replace a cylinder that is not damaged.

Hopefully they don't get on the same page. Or service can straighten out the sales department (not the other way around).

Has anyone else bought the 723 FEL in the last year?
Can anyone talk to their dealer about this problem?

Spidey,

I don't know what may be causing the problems, but I am interested to hear the outcome.

I have the exact same setup as you. Mine is an '03 with 300.7 hrs on it, but I bought it used. I have since put about 48 hrs on it and 3/4 of that time is hoe work. My 3 pt is always in the up position and I've never had a problem. Hopefully, I never will.

I spoke to the previous owner and he bought the tractor specifically for hoe work. He never used the 3pt arms, so they have always been in the up position when using the hoe.

Good luck,

bucky4

After talking more to service I found out that there is a group of cylinders with specific serial numbers that are marked as defective. I will try to get the numbers from the two original ones remaining and then the two new ones. There is probably a date code embedded in the serial numbers.

An on-line dealer was nice enough to email a copy of the service bulliten. It is 104k so I zipped it. If you dont have winzip I can email it to anyone interested.

Hi...

Thanks for the bulliten copy... !!

...that's EXAXTLY what happened to 1 seal on my 723 loader 2 weeks ago... I now see how to test for others possibly failing... and have the bulliten to show the dealer if there's any other seal problem... tractor is still under warrenty...
