I am buying a a L3130 HST with a 723 loader. The standard flat back 72" bucket is $300 less then the HD round back. What is the difference between the two? They both hold the same . Anything else I should add before delivery? Someone mentioned a 4 position joystck. Isn't that the standard joystick control ? Thanks for any help. I would like to get this right the first time. I am having tires loaded with rim guard.

Mid PTO, and soft cab if you did not already have it.

The standard pinned square 72" bucket weighs 293#, the round 72" weighs 331#. The QA difference is greater at 331# for the square and 397# for the round. The difference is more than paint thickness I can assure you /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
The round HD bucket also comes with a drilled cutting edge to accept the optional reversibile bolt on edge. With the bolt on edge you can't get the entire bucket bottom to lay on the grade because of the thickness of the edge. Not a big deal unless it really bothers you. You can still back blade just fine. The benefit is in how the bolt on edge reinforces the bucket lip. It really does stiffen things up. A possible drawback is if you want a tooth bar you may be somewhat limited as to who offers a model that will attach with the bolt on edge in place, I'm unsure of this so check it out if you think it will hinder you.
There may be (may have been) two loader valves available. The model with float and regeneration came with mine. In retrospect I would also get the fender mounted remote loader control option, the type used with the cab model, I prefer to have the loader control at my side rather that reach for it. Just my preference.
The LA723 is the ugly duckling of loaders in that it is not as modern looking as the nice new curved models and does block some of your view (so does the tractor hood). It is underrated as far as lift goes. I have used the bucket corner and accidentally picked the rear wheel of the ground with the hoe in place. That is not a good thing so I don't make a habit of it.
I must add that although I grease the unit every eight hours there is now a noticible looseness to the pins that wasn't there when new (210 hours of which 1/3 is loader work). Some element has worn, I haven't investigated which one. I don't believe there are user replaceable bushings.
It is one strong loader as far as lift for a small farm tractor is concerned.

All the best,
Martin

I went with the 66" HD bucket on my L3130 to offset the weight penalty. I don't expect to have a lot of dirt, etc. to move so the smaller capacity is no penalty either. The HD bucket has a thicker cutting edge than the regular bucket so unless you will handling a lot of abrasive material you won't need the bolt on cutting edge. I have mine off when I use the toothbar which is most of the time.

Since I am very tall and have the seat pushed all the way back visibility is not too much of a problem. The biggest problem is lining up the QA when attaching an implement. I use the left side primarily since the hydraulic lines restrict visibility on the right side.

Vernon,
Can you post a picture of the loader and backhoe on your 3130? How easy is it to remove the backhoe?

I don't have a backhoe on my L3130. I couldn't conceive of enough potential projects to justify it. When the winds lay down I will try to get pictures of my loader. What is it that you are particularly interested in?

I'm not sure about the buckets on the L3130 but when I ordered my L3010 I ordered a standard bucket. The dealer put a HD bucket on because it was all he had. I sure am glad I have the HD bucket now. The top edge of my bucket is extremely strong. It looks like about a 2 1/2" pipe is welded in for reinforcement instead of just a bent lip with the sheet metal. I have seen a lot of bent top edges of buckets when people wrap a chain around the bucket to lift something. This is not a problem with the HD bucket. I assume the new buckets are the same but I don't know for sure.
