Tractor
TC-30, fel
Sunday morning 20 degrees outside,I used my tc-30, 7308fel for the first time in about a month. the joy stick was stiff and the loader whined about four times louder than when it was above 45 degrees outside. I used it for about 1/2 hour and the sound really did not change much. I contributed this to thick hydrulic oil, am I correct? is there anything to be concerned about? anything to do about it? the tractor was bought new in May03, and has 105 hours on it, mantanence up to date, and she has been flawless so far.

Was your three point hitch all the way up? When it is cold out, the adjustment is out of wack on mine & the relief valve opens if the three point lever is all the way up.

Other than that, the hydraulics are noisier when it is cold outside.

I have a TC29D with 7308. It SCREAMS when its cold. Probably 3 times louder than usual.

First thing I did was lift the 3ph all the way up as there is a back blade on it waiting for our first real snow fall. drove it out of the barn played with the empty fel on the way to the garage check the fluids, grease, moved some fire wood, took the trash to the road. wiped if off. very, very light work, as I have not used it in a while, up early Sunday, wife and kids still in bed, cold, crisp, and clear morning, good coffee, and a whiney fel??, sounds normal, that is good, my only concern on that pleasant morning was the debate on my extra fel noise, thanks for putting my mind at ease.

Correct, hydraulic oil that is thicker when cold is the cause.

Nope. If you want to reduce the noise, replace the standard hydraulic oil with Amsoil (I did) or contact your dealer. I believe there's a 'fix' for this that involves replacing some of the rigid steel lines with flexible hoses.

I believe they call that harmonics. What tune is it whistling anyway? My TC-40D does I'm Dreaming Of A White Christmas. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Mine is exceedingly loud, till the fluid gets really warm, which never seems to actually happen when it's under 50 degrees.

Yep. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Last night on the History Channel (I think) they had a segment on Modern Marvels about the F14. On one of the early test flights, severe harmonics/vibration caused a hydraulic line to break. They had video of the F14 flying with a stream of hydraulic fluid flowing from the back of the jet. All they had to do to fix it was add additional support clamps to the line that broke. At least we don't have that problem. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

BTW, switching to Amsoil hydraulic fluid has substantially reduced the whine on my TC25D. While reporting noise levels, absent a dB meter, is subjective, thus far this winter, the noise I hear is no worse than the noise I hear in warm weather.

I agree. While flying my tractor at mach 2.8 and 36,000 feet, I wouldn't want to look out and see fluid leaking out the back.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

PS Didn't someone doctor up a pic of a New Holland breaking the sound barrier several months ago?

If your flying your New Holland at mach 2.8 you might have to watch out for bug splatter on your teeth!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
