7308 FEL won\'t stay in float position

I used the FEL this morning and when I pushed the joystick fully forward to float the bucket, it wouldn't stay there. I had to hold the lever in place, even after using the tractor for over a half hour, so the tractor was warmed up good. It's 28 degrees out, so it's not real cold. The last time I used it, it worked fine, but the temperature was around 35. Anybody else have this problem?

Re: 7308 FEL won\'t stay in float position

Danny,

Myself I have not had any trouble. But I know about 6 months ago another person did have the trouble. I think it was some kind of adjustment that had to be done. Try doing a search here and see if you can come up with anything.

Danny,

I don't think it was the one but it does have some suggestions. I thought it was one that was started last fall. This one started last January 2003. But it could be, time flys when your having fun.

Re: 7308 FEL won\'t stay in float position

I just used my tractor to clear the snow out of my drive-way and mine won't stay in the float position either. It is a brand new control lever on my tractor. It will stay for awhile after it starts to get warmed up but can't be relied on to stay in the float position. The temperature was 20 degrees out this afternoon.

Re: 7308 FEL won\'t stay in float position

I recall only once in the past two winters that my FEL control lever not wanting to stay in the float position. I worked itself out fairly quickly though. Don't hold me to this, but I think it was a pretty cold day (~20 degrees) and it was before I got the hydraulic fluid that works better in the winter. Someone help me out, I think it's called F200 or maybe F400? I plowed this weekend in 15 degree weather without any problems, other than having a whole lot of pink skin. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

The New Holland fluid is F200.

Re: 7308 FEL won\'t stay in float position

I guess I'll see what it does when it warms up again. If it's just a cold weather problem, then I can live with it since I don't use it very much when it's cold out. I use my rear blade for the majority of the snow plowing and just use the FEL to move some of the snow where it gets piled up too much.

Re: 7308 FEL won\'t stay in float position

If I had to guess I'd say it was the cold not letting the rubber boot flex and causing enough resistance to push the lever out of float. Try lifting the bottom part of the boot out of the housing and just let it flop and see if that helps. My TC40D had the same problem and taking the boot out of the housing solved it.

techinNY - I guess I read your mind before you posted this! I did exactly what you said when I got home yesterday. With the tractor not running I pushed the lever forward and it wouldn't stay. I pulled the boot out of the housing and tried it again and it stayed forward with no problem. I haven't tried it running yet, but will post the results when I do. My FEL is still new and hasn't been used much, so maybe after the boot gets worked around some more it will loosen up.
