7308 Loader Dropping

I have a TC29D with a 7308 FEL that I bought new in 2001. I have noticed that after the motor is turned off, and if I leave the loader raised up, it will start to creep down. Is this typical? I am aware of the obvious safety concerns but should this be happening?

Depends on how fast it drops. Does it begin dropping immediately upon stopping the engine?

It creeps downward and will drop a couple of feet overnight.

Dan, based upon what I've read on TBN, this is normal. Although since I do not normally leave the FEL raised when I put my TC25D away, I have no personal experience.

I think some dropping is normal. Basicall you have a valve that is leaking some. But for it to drop two feet over night would concern me some and maybe would have it checked out. But my personaly opinion is the never leave any implement in the up position especially if there is kids around. Leaving a loader up will also do some damage to your head if you forget it is there, that is not my personal experience. The little farm experience that I have had I remember locking pins to prevent the hydraulics from leaking down on certain implements, not sure if they have them anymore or not.

The acceptable drop rate from New Holland engineering is 1.5-2 inches and hours so your rate is in the proper spec. nothing to worry about.

I recent left my loader in a raised position for about a week...I know I shouldn't do that, but I did it anyway. I didn't notice any droppage at all, but the bucket was empty which may have an effect..

I'm not familiar with the New Holland hydraulics, but do work on hydraulic equipment regularly. If any of the equpiment I maintain has a noticable drop overnight, it get s fixed! Another important reason to keep cylenders retracted is to prevent dirt rust corrosion, etc... on the cylender. Should be under warranty and I'd have it repaired while it is.

if this loader is within spec for drop down rate New Holland will not warranty the packings or labor to do it. The rate of drop being reported is within New Hollands spec. Most of the less expensive valves that are used on these tractors will exibit some signs of drift. They are not of the same quality of the types used on construction equipment.
