Hi Everyone,

I've got a '75 Ford 3000 and I can't get it to start. It's a diesel, CAV pump.

Background, the tractor would start, but would not rev. After some research I changed the fuel filter. After bleeding, it started right up. I drove it around for about a half hour and parked it. I checked it for starting problems 3-4 days in a row. It started right up. A week to 2 weeks later, it started right up, I drove it over to my driveway (about 150 feet), to replace the hydraulic fluids in the power steering pump, transmission and differential. I got the ps pump and trans done and tried to start it for testing and... nothing. And here we are.

I've cleaned or replaced every filter that I'm aware of: in tank, the actual fuel filter (C1191A), inlet filter on pump. I've bled, and rebled, and rebled. And rebled. I get fuel out of the bleeder on the top of the filter. That comes out in seconds on a dry filter. I get fuel out of the 5/16th bleeder on the side of the pump. If I leave it open/no cranking, fuel continues to flow out.

The first time I bled the system after the fuel filter change that I did, I was getting fuel to the top of the fuel lines at all the injectors. Since the tractor has refused to start, I've gone from 2 lines putting out fuel - never all 3 - to no fuel at the top of the fuel lines at the injectors.

I've tried loosening 2 of the 3 fuel lines at the pump itself, one at a time, no fuel comes out of the fuel out ports of the pump when cranking.

I have NO fuel leaks anywhere.

I have a hard time thinking this is a bleeding/air problem anymore. I've cranked the engine enough, I think, to have gotten fuel to the top of the lines at the injectors. The first several times I bled the lines, it didn't take that long to get fuel there. Like I said, now there's nothing.

I have a very good flow of fuel out of the tank and out of both outlet lines to the pump, the fuel inlet on the back of the pump and whatever the fuel line on the side of the pump is called. The one with the banjo fitting.

I haven't tried towing to bleed the lines. I guess that's next. Today I did the filter inside the fuel inlet on the back of the pump. It probably was clogged. It's not now. All of the small holes in the valve inside the fuel inlet are clean. If I put a little diesel in the fuel inlet with that part OFF the pump it will leak down and out very quickly. So there's no blockage there.

So I'm no officially stuck.

What would stop the pump from putting out fuel? The timing marks are properly lined up.

The shut-off is working. It's not jammed/keeping the engine from starting. The throttle linkage is working.

Any suggestions?

I'm thinking about taking a syringe and putting fuel DOWN the fuel lines up at the top of the engine to fill them back down to the pump. So instead of cranking to get fuel up I'd be putting fuel down and filling the line. Maybe if I can get the engine running that way, I can get the pump to flow. Good idea? Bad idea?

Thanks!
