7500/2410 prices

Here are the prices I was quoted today on a couple of Kubota tractors. These are a little better than a couple of months ago, so the market might be softening a little, at least in TX anyway./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

B7500-hydrostat w/R4 tires and LA302 loader - $12,396

B2410-hydrostat w/R4 tires and LA352 loader - $14,137

Also quoted a 4' Bush Hog brand shredder at $795. It looked he-- for stout, but what do y'all think about the price?

Current rates are good through the end of November, but with the rumored Fed cut . . . who knows? Sure would like to buy a tractor w/ no money down and 5.99% instead of 6.99%, but you can't have everything you want, hey?

Also, just some observations on the two models side-by-side that you don't see in the brochures, which I think I know by heart. In addition to the obvious addtl. horsepower and position control, the 2410 has the following advantages:

-The 2410 hood provides a bit better access to the engine as compared to the 7500.
-The 2410's front axle housing is bigger than the 7500's.
-The 2410 has a more comfortable seat and the fender tops are made of metal, instead of plastic.
-The 2410 has a little better front lights.
-The 2410's exhaust runs through the side panel instead of under it, for a neater appearance.

A lot of these differences don't mean a whole lot. I'm just posting them for someone who might want to know these things. I think most of us are "techno-weenies" at heart; I know I am./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

i bought a 7500 hsd in aug. paid 9600.00. it included r-4 tires and 3 suitcase weights. i bought the tractor at lanford equipment in austin, tx.

That's a good price. It figures out to be about $300 less than my quote, once you figure in about $2500 for the loader. How do you like your dealer so far?

Not sure what you're talking about there. The fenders (and the tops of them) are metal on mine.

Also, not sure what difference you're talking about re: engine access. Once you've lifted the hood, and popped off the sides, the engine access on the B7500 is pretty first rate.

The part on the fender that I'm referring to is the portion that surrounds the levers on the 7500. The fenders themselves are metal, but the upper half is plastic. Not necessarily a big deal, as I said before, but a difference none-the-less, compared to the 2410 that is all metal. Perhaps pre-2001 B7500's were not this way?

As far as the hood access, you are right that it's pretty good on the 7500. However, the 2410's hood lifts higher for some reason, and it is a few inches longer, resulting in quite a bit better access from the top. Maybe access from the top is not as important as side access? Certainly not a serious issue, by any means.

I will say that the seat on the 2410 is MUCH superior to the one on the 7500. I am a big guy, and the difference was very noticeable, AFTER it was pointed out to me by my <font color=orange>11-year-old daughter!</font color=orange>/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I got a Bush Hog SQ480 - 4" cutter for $695 from my dealer in Houston - Katy, TX. It is their "light weight" model, but does great for my application. I am not doing any "heavy" cutting. Use it on a B2400.

Now that you know the techno stuff, you should buy the tractor you subjectively like better, otherwise you will always be second guessing yourself. To me, it sounds like you are leaning toward the 2410.

My understanding is that the rates went down to 5.9% on 9/1.

Finally, I'd like to add some more meat in your soup. I have 11 acres. Pre-tractor, 2 of those acres were lawn and 9 were tangled brush, reeds, and rocks. I have been clearing those acres, but my 2910 is the absolute smallest machine I would recommend for the job. If it werent for the expanding lawn, which is now 3 acres and for which I like the 2910, I could definitely have used a Grand L for the brush cutting and clearing.

In sum, I recommend you seriously think about a 2910. If you like the 2410, you should like the 2910 even better. Much better seat. Additional power. And you will be able to use larger mowers and other implements.

I like your thinking!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif I have looked at the 27/29 series of tractors, and the 2710 can be had for about $1500 more than the 2410. It's larger size definitely would be a plus for clearing or earth-moving tasks. However, the more compact size of the 2410/7500 is desireable as well, because there are a lot of places on my property that I want to go through, but with minimal impact. In other words, I don't want to clear a huge trail through my deer woods.

And of course the extra $. A 2710 would be about $65 more per month than a 7500, which is already too pricey for my very understanding wife.

In short, a 7500 would probably be enough, and a 2410 contains enough additional luxury features to make me feel spoiled. Sure do like that 2710 though . . . and the 2910 is really nice!

I first bought a BX and very quickly realized it was too small for my digging, clearing and muscle work. I then worried that the 2910 was too big for lawn mowing. I was thus focused for a while on the 2410. I then lined up the 2410 and 2910 right next to each other in the dealers gravel parking lot. There really isnt much difference in physical size. I then drove circles in the gravel. The inside circle diameter of the 2910 was only very slightly larger. I bought the 2910, stll thinking I had bought too big.

No longer!!! The 2910 is very maneuverable. I very glad I have the 6 extra horses and extra fel and 3ph lift capacities, and, as I have said, frequently could use more muscle.

The ability to use larger implements means you can do jobs faster, and do jobs you otherwise would not do.

Financially:

1. You will improve the value of your land over the years by more than the cost of the tractor. The larger the tractor, the more and the faster the improvements.

2. You have to think of a tractor as a vehicle as costly as a new automobile. Once financing is complete, the tractor can last longer than the rest of your lives.

3. Resale values on all Kubota tractors are high.

4. Resale on 2910's will be better than on 2410s or 2710s because 2910s are more popular (check these facts in your local area).

5. As a beefier, more powerful tractor, the 2910 will have fewer repair bills in the long run.

6. The larger implements you buy for the larger tractor will last longer and will be have a larger resale marketplace.

7. You are getting old and it will be less physical stress on you to have a stronger tractor.

8. You will promise to save money by giving up Cheese-Its, beer, and useless cable channels and power tools.

I agree with Glenn, especially the <font color=blue>check your local area</font color=blue> part. I looked AT tractors of all types for over 2 years, then FOR tractors for over 1 year. I settled on a power/size/budget range, then I settled on Orange due to price/value and product positioning (what their model line features and prices looked like compared to the competition). Since I agonized for several months over the final decision, I did not make the mistake of buying too small to begin with. My primary concern was that the tractor not weigh too much and chew up the lawn when mowing. It is very swampy around here in the spring after the thaw/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif. That usually lasts until mid-May when it spring finally dries out and the sun comes out/w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif. I determined that the mid-size B-series frame was what I needed, then I thought that position control and larger implements would be important features, so I went to the 2410 rather than the 7500. When I was comparing prices, I got a quote that for only $600 more I could move up to the 2710. The 2910 was another $1800 up from there/w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif. I think that dealer wanted to move the 2710s for some reason, but I think I got a great deal. As for chewing up the lawn - with R4s and NOT in 4wd (important!), it seems to tread very lightly. In really swampy areas it would sink in, but then again, so would my JD lx172 lawn tractor. I just avoid those spots until they dry. I do not think that moving up to the largest B-series frame has proved to have any disadvantages, while there are scores of advantages that others have already pointed out. As for the 2710 vs 2910, well I couldn't see paying that extra money for tilt wheel, adjustable height seat, extension 3PH links and a different cruise control (2710 has cruise, but its a different mechanism). I think the extension links are a useful feature, but I could buy them separately for much less. The 2 fewer ponies might become a disadvantage if I ever want to run a HUGE PTO chipper, but in practicality, I don't think it will ever really matter. As for popularity, ANY b-series kubota sells within days of advertising it (unless its overpriced at the dealer, then it may take weeks to sell/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif).

I wrote up a story and did a comparison features spreadsheet that I could email you if you'd like. Its more of a narrative of my search process and reasoning, including a list of projects and tasks to match against the features list.

Paul, you may be right that your dealer wanted to move the 2710. I think most people report a price difference, after some reasonable negotiation, of 900-1000 between the 2710 and 2910. The bigger jump is usually between the 2410 and 2710.
