7510 Question

Since you had the JD 455 tractor styled lawnmower, you like most past owners of such equipment--tractor styled ride on mowers of any sort----is that you think in terms of the MMM only, I did the same thing. Yes, the 7510 can have the deck pinned up and I do cut like that, and the BX can lock the deck up and I have used it that way as well but using a MMM for field cutting is asking for it. Those things cost about 3,000 dollars and a cheap brush cutter about 500 --so which do you want to tear up. Some people will go to any expense to save a dollar. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
As to the JD4110, does't it have a plastic floor and hood? The deck on castors on the 7510 is not that bad but if the JD actually has a suspended 60inch deck that may offset things a bit. Good luck. J

I can't see how you will get by without the 7800, BUT I'll let you off the hook. I do however command you to get the 7610!! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif There! Now you can tell your wife that you had no choice.

Don't forget to ask for the straps, as those rusty chains are heck on the frame!!! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Nice meeting you! Your the first TBN'er that I've ever met (off the board).

Ok, Ok!! My profile is filled out!

Probably like you, i'm a bit concerned after treading the "Thinking about Selling the B7500" thread.

As we discussed, my observation of the 60" MMM's cutting ability when using the demo 7500 was that it was no worse than my current JD 445's.

The comment about wearing the lawn also has me a bit concerned, but i'm hoping that maybe it is partially due to running the tractor too fast. I did note during my demo that the 7500 was more likely to "push" the front tires straight instead of turning the tractor at high speeds.

Oh well....time will tell. My new 7610 should be delivered sometime this week. I already have a call into Kevin to make sure he does not use rusty chains on my new tractor!

Try to do the close in cutting s-l-o-w and stay drive in straight lines as much as possible. I've found out the quick turns and the back up and turns and the yard are not the best way to cut the grass. Don't mow in 4 wheel drive, it'll ruin your yard.
Where I live, I have a yard and not a lawn.

The ZTRs when turned in their tracks do as much damage as the tractors do. It's the spinning the grass in a circle. The Dixon ZTR dealer warned me, and said most folks have to learn how to keep from ripping up the grass under the tires.

I can tell you that technique has alot to do with it. I was turfing the lawn on many occasions when I first got mine. You need to accelerate out slowly, don't just hammer the pedddal. You need to try to choose good times to mow, I usually wait until it is a little bit dry. I'm sure you'll be fine!

"I usually wait until it is a little bit dry. I'm sure you'll be fine!"

Yes, I do the same thing. Sometimes the tractor styled lawnmower guys have already cut the grass a day or two before me after a rain before I dare go out on it with the 2410. To do so would quickly destroy my yard. Down south at my parents place I notice that the St. Augustine floats the BX a little better than the fescue did. In either case, cutting a yard sooner than two full days after a good rain is pushing it. J

One other thing. If mowing a hillside or slope sideways, when you turn around, do it to the downhill side. This lowers the amount of force the rear wheels have to deliver to the ground to get the machine turned around.

If you really think about it, it is common sense. I just took a while to figure some of it out. If you turf the grass, think about why it happened. Done right, I could surely mow my grass with a 7800 with little difference in overall look. I'd probably use huge turfs (properlt inflated). I'd airate twice a year instead of just in the fall. And so on...

BTW - I mow at 4" to 3.5" all summer long. I never go any lower. This has helped my lawn situation in several ways.
