7610 Foldable ROPS Dumb Question

Tried to fold down my ROPS for the first time today. Wouldn't fold down easily, so I followed the directions in the manual to loosen the nut that regulates fold down "friction." I removed the cotter pins and attempted to loosen the nuts, but the things are on EXTREMELY tight /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif. As a matter of fact, I broke a socket trying to loosen them up.

Do you have to loosen with an impact wrench? I'm assuming they are lefty/loosey, righty/tighty? The manual doesn't specify otherwise. Anyone else had this problem? Thanks.

That sounds like something that would happen to me /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

No, I'm not talking about the pins that prevent the ROPS from folding down. I'm able to get those pins out with no problem, and I can see that those nuts are welded to the ROPS /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm talking about the pins and nuts that regulate how freely the ROPS moves when being folded. They go right through the middle of the ROPS bar. The manual states that these nuts should be tightened to increase the resistance when folding the ROPS. Right now I can't budge the ROPS at all so I assumed I need to loosen the nuts to allow more free movement. But I have tried loosening the nuts and I've tried loosening the pins to no avail. I don't have an impact wrench so I haven't tried that yet.

I just went out and checked the nuts on the ROPS for adjusting the friction on my 7610. They are indeed a bit on the tight side but are movable with a large crescent wrench. Yours are obviously on too tight (that is why you want to loosen them I guess).

The only other thing I would recommend is spraying the inside of the nuts (toward the ROPS) with WD40 or penetrating oil (my dad calls it kickaboo joy juice). Maybe some rust built up there.

I found that shooting them with some WD-40 or LPS on my B2910 made the ROPS fold down very easy (almost too easy /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif you have to keep ahold of it and lower it now otherwise it would fall) - so i would say some juice rather than a wrench is probably the better way to go.
