790 3PH lower arm stability

I have a 790 with 220 hrs that I purchased new with a 60" Box Scraper, Top and Tilt, 300 FEL, 60" Disc, 7 Backhoe, and Post Hole Auger. I am having problems with the sway chains on the lower arms. With the tilt in the third hole out and the sway chains in the first, the tilt covers the second hole and the sway chains are as tight as they can get and have stretched so out that the drag bars rub on the tires when it sways back and forth about 6".

Has anyone else had this problem or do you know of a solution. I can't get any satisfaction from the Dealer.

Not sure I follow either. I have a 790 but no top/tilt. As far as I know, my sway chains only have one hole to choose from. Maybe your setup is entirely different? Any chance you can post a picture? When the sway chains were new, I tightened them up evenly to minimize the sway and both turnbuckles on both chains only had about a half inch left to tighten. They continually got looser and finally the chain link on one side streatched so far that if broke and I had to replace it with another link. The other side continued to stretch and all of the holes throughout the link have elongated adding to the stretch and loosening problem. Finally they stretched so far that they couldn't be tightened enough to keep the implement from hitting the tires and I had to replace them with a new set. $188 later. Now because of the elongated fittings that remain I have even less ability to adjust the chains and I think they are already beginning to stretch. The picture is of the new set.

I can't know for sure but I can think of a couple of possibilities. One is that you are overtightening your check chains. As the tph moves through it's range of travel, the chains will tighten/slacken some. If you tighten them at their loosest point they will be overly tight when they get to the tightest point. Next time you hook up, check your chains throughout the range.

Another possibility is the implement you are using is putting strong side-loads on your hitch. I can only imagine a ground implement such as a plow or disc doing this and then only if you turn without raising it.

A third possibility is that mine is doing the same thing and I just haven't noticed. I'll have a look /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
