I'm looking for opinions on the cut quality from the 790 with the 60" MMM. What speed do people mow at? Has anyone mowed in Hi/4th?

Also, is the height adjustment hydraulic (And so you'd have to unplug the
hoses from the loader to use the MMM) or is it mechanical off of the 3pt hitch?

Any other opinions on this setup would be appreciated?

Still considering a 2nd tractor and not sure what I want to get. The 3000 series (Especially) the cabs are nice but a lot of $$$.

FYI

The MMM will not work with R-4 tires. Your profile shows a 2305, so I assume you are still thinking about buying a 790.

Yes, I have a 2305 but have two properties and am looking to buy a 2nd tractor to avoid running the 2305 200 miles back and forth. I wouldn't mind something a little bit bigger than the 2305 (especially would love to get a 72" deck) but I don't want to spend a fortune.

Nobody else with 790 MMM experiences... :( ?

We had a 790 with a 60mmm and it cut great. We bought it used and the prior owner used it solely as a lawnmower. Ours had turf tires and with the 4wd, never had a problem with it. Even with moving snow.

Can't remember the gear used for cutting though.

Thanks for the info. Does anybody else know if the mower lift is hydraulic or off the 3pt Hitch? Or has anyone noted if they have mowed in Hi/4th?

Thanks,

Can't help you much with the MMM as I use a rear mount but high 4 (8sp) is a
transport gear, think it would be a little fast for mowing.

Yea, I know it seems fast, but I mow at full bore (maybe 9mph) in high range on my 2305. at 2600rpm (PTO speed) I think the 790 would be about 10mph. (Yes, I do slow down for corners... ;)

Figured I might try it. My lot is super flat and about 1000' long so I can usually (unless the grass is very high) get away 'flying' while mowing.. I know for a rear mower that would be way to fast for the caster wheels.

;)

I've owned a 790 with the 60" MMM and turf tires for 6 years now. For the tight spots I mow in 4th gear-low, and on the open stretches 1st gear high. Anything faster than that and I'd bounce off the tractor.

I'm very happy with the setup. I have to sharpen the blades atleast once a year as I've got some high spots and tree roots that I nick on ocassion....

The MMM is attached to the rear draw-bars, so yes- it's a hydraulic lift. You don't have to remove your front-loader to mow. The quick-attach hoses for the loader is a seperate system.

However, it's a heck of a lot easire to mow with the loader removed.

Hope this helps,
Henry
