Same thing happened to me over a year ago. As someone else mentioned, it's just the pedal return spring, not the actual clutch springs. Mine broke on a Sunday so I hit Home Depot for the closest thing and it's still going strong. Maybe next time I'll "spring" for the JD part? (Sorry, couldn't resist)
And yes, it was a pain to replace /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
