I have pretty much determined that it is time for me to take the step from a JD riding mower to a compact tractor.I convinced the boss that her and I should go into the local JD dealer and see what financing deals they have. I dont want HST, and I really like the 790 vs the 990 because of the $5k difference in price. I applied for JD financing on a 790 and got approved for the 72mo at 6% interest which is pretty reasonable since I am 23 and my wife is 22 and we have "young" credit. I got a quote on a 790 and wanted yalls input on it:
05 4wd 790 w/R4s Retail 11929 package price 11595
300X FEL Retail 3190 package price 2695
LX5 shredder Retail 1341 Package price 1111
Rhino 60" BB Retail 795 Package price 549

Total Price 15950.00

I know this question has probably been asked a hundred times but I just wanted to see what yall though. Thanks for any input.

What all do you plan on doing with the tractor?

I would seriously consider a HST trans - they sure can be nice.

The discount on the tractor seems a tad low, I would continue to shop it. I am sure a number of people can chime in with their pricing they got on their 790s.

I plan on doing a little bit of loader work but after that is done it will be mainly shredding about 8 acres and small landscaping around the house(thats how I convinced the boss it was required /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif). I REALLY want a manual tranny. I dont mind shifting gears and I like the option to set in in SUPER low. I live about an hour NW of Houston, TX and that quote is from a local dealer

You are within $150 of what I consider a perfect deal IF these items are included in the price. I just bought a 790 package within the last 30 days so I am fully up to date on pricing after checking with several dealers in two states. By the way, is the loader really a 300x or just a plain 300? You need to ask. You are probably getting a plain 300.

Filled tires
HD bucket and tooth bar (HD bucket is very important)
Free delivery to your house

If you pay the full $15,900 then all you need added is a free JD I-Match quick hitch (plus the above) and you are good to go. Dealers may have a slightly used I-match. That is a good thing. Lots of people return theirs because their existing implements will not fit it. A new unit with a couple weekends use on it is a great deal. This is one place where a used item is just as good as new. You will not find many dealers pushing them because they know that many come back due to incompatability with off brand implements. That is another good reason to get one. Every implement you buy needs to adhere to the proper CAT 1 standards. Swapping 3PT implements within leaving the tractor seat is a huge benefit.

As far as the JD financing is concerned, ask for the property insurance package. It will cost you approx $5.25 per month for coverage. If you have coverage on your homeowners policy (iffy) you would then have double coverage. If not, you are still fully covered.

On my quote sheet is says 300X loader, whats the diff. between a 300 and 300X or 300CX(?) I dont know that much about them and the JD website isnt the most helpful.

The 300X is a non self leveling loader and the 300CX is a self leveling. So, with a self leveing loader if you have a pallet on it - the pallet will stay at the same angle as you raise or lower it. If you have the 300X (non-self leveling) if you want to keep it level you have to introduce so angle with the joystick.

The 300CX has better lift capacities also.

That's a nice price. I paid 14,600 for mine last November. 790, R4's loaded, 300 loader and ballast box deliverded to my door. I've also heard that New England tends to run higher on the pricing compared to other area's of the country.

I ran some numbers on this deal and my gut says it could be

Retail total: 17,255
Deal: 15,950
7.56% off retail

I have never bougth a 790, but they do know me by first name at the John Deere dealership. I would expect the discount to be atleast 10% as a minimum with you buying it all at once.

Other chime in here and set me straight if I am off base.
