Anyone have a tiller for a 790? I am looking at the King Kutter 60" gear model. It's about $1200 here. The dealer wants $1999 for a 60" Frontier. Will the 790 run a 60" fine? I will be planting food plots with a max of 1/8 acre in size, but most places are completely untilled. One other thing to think about though is I figure digging 3" max for just a food plot.

I have run an older 5' tiller on my 790 with no trouble. I would say for the price difference, pay close attention to the Frontier.I have noticed some great improvements in my frontier blade over some previous less expensive brands.Only
3" deep ? maybe some other implements that would do it for less $ if thats all you plan on using it for.

There have been acouple of posts on the KK tillers in the attachments area. Not real good reports relative to quality control. I looked at a KK II at the local TSC the other day. It "looked" to be a fairly "beefy" unit. Regardless which you buy the 790 is up to the task.

Take a look at CCM tillers. I have a 5' CCM tiller on my 790 and it works great. Cost around $1200. All gear driven and very heavily built.

I have a J.D. 790 tractor, 60 inch King Kutter rototiller.. I've only used it a
couple of times to tear up sod in sand soil about 4 inches deep I've not
experienced any problems, the 790 didn't seem overloaded...

My only grip with King Kutter is the pins are to close to the body for the quick
hitch hooks to get behind. Just a half inch more room an it would work but
from what I seen at TSC, they haven't corrected it.

Yes I did talk with K.K. a 1 1/2 ago but KK doesn't seem to care.

Also you may have to cut the PTO shaft as mine was to long...

I also have a 790, with a 60" KK tiller. I have bogged my tractor in heavy clay soil while trying to mix some sand and good dirt in to improve a garden spot. When it starts bogging, I just lift the tiller up, then run with it a little higher for a pass or two, and gradually work my way deeper. On another spot, which is made up of good, clean dirt- the tiller ran through it like nobody's business.
When I first got the tiller, I didn't have a plow. It cut through 3" of never worked pasture , but again, I had a few bog-down sessions with it.

Now, after plowing, it cuts right through as long as the ground isn't too wet.
It may just take a little longer to do the work if your soil quality is bad, but it'll do it.

Maybe I go way too slow or something... but I have a 48" KKII behind my 4110 and it doesn't even remotely bog down in out GA red clay.

As for the KKII's quality. I read all kinds of post regarding the KK and besides the horrible paint and ugly welds there were no other complaints. My KK is great. I had severe reservations about it before, but it has proven itself to be a very good machine.
