Hi again,

does anybody know how much the R1 tires/wheels run for a 790.

Also, if I fill my R4s, how much weight would I be adding per tire? Can I just use water (in texas)?

Finally, I have heard a lot of good results filling th R4s - any comments on how it should be would be great.

thanks

I'll look on jdparts for ya, it'll show rim prices but dont dare buy tires at a tractor dealer

This is what I got from JDparts

QTY 1 M138917 DISK, WHEEL 190.00 USD

this is the inside part of the rear wheel that is width adjustable

QTY 1 AM124347 RIM, WITH CLAMPS, W10X24 230.00 USD

This is the outside of the rear wheel, I believe the 11.2x24 r-1 is what could come with a 790. about $15 worth of fasteners connect the above together.

Front wheel appears to be:

QTY 1 AM876649 WHEEL 4JA X 12W 84.00 USD

so about $1038 b4 tax (if applicable) just for the wheels

dont have a clue what rubber costs, I'll guess $5-700

Now if you build your own 790 at the regular deere.com website, the configurator allows you to "add attachments for field conversion" and it shows a pair of rear wheels with rubber for $812 and pair of fronts with rubber for $324 totalling $1136 b4 tax.....I dont know if you can out right buy the package after you already bought the tractor though.

Thanks, Steve -

I appreciate the research - that does seem awful high - I didn't know that you could order the different tires from the get-go....

I really like the R1s - but maybe I'll just fill the R4s - how much weight will water give me?

Thanks,

A few tire threads on the forum lately... swapping and buying and mud up to your armpits!

The deere.com configurator price for rims and tires is a little bit steep!

Anybody ever get a price reduction from their dealer off of the deere listed price?

Thanks.

Just got this back from my dealer:

Front two are $320 a pair and Rear are $820 a pair

Does sound high - so think I'll go and fill them first and see how that does - really I'm looking for stability - tractor is just very light and bounces around a bit more than I'd like when using the FEL and even the shredder (if I tako off the bucket....)

I think I'll fill with water and a little peak for corrosion control..

Flywheel,

I believe that your owner's manual has info regarding weight/ballast for filled tires for the different tire types (R1, R3, R4, etc.) that are available with your 790.

Should have estimates for rears and fronts as well.

Those dealer prices for steel and rubber?

AKFish - The manual doesn't have the estimated weights - unfortunately. It does recommend 90% fill, though - to minimize corrosion - as well as using cacl.

I just went and filled with water and put the rear pressure at 30psi - seems high.... Didn't notice much of a difference so far - maybe the tire pressure is a little high. Need to see what the tire says. I think those tires are rated for 4100lbs - that's 8000 for the rear. I don't see myself ever having that much weight - so I presume I can lower the pressure for a better ride?

RDLN - Yes - those prices are for wheels and tires - that's about $400 lowerr than I had seen elsewhere.

Thanks, fellas.

Glad to hear that you tackled the problem on your own and filled the tires. You should darn near be able to grab onto enough to stall your loader out and still have enough ballast. Especially if you hang a mower or box blade off your 3 pt.

Just checked my owner's manual for my 970 (wasn't sure if my dementia hadn't kicked in again..) to see if the weighted tire estimates weren't in there. Yup. There they were! Don't know what Deere did with the newer manuals.

Also just got a quote from the dealer for a steel and rubber package. They are willing to go with the configurator estimate from deere.com.

Keoke (fellow TBNer) has a 970 and has been running 8x16 fronts and 14.9x24 rears that are used on the 990.

I'll probably go with that option as well. Don't know if that's a good deal or not, though. $1,641 seems like a princely sum...
