8 ten bar and chains

   / 8 ten bar and chains #11
Wearing out a bar in just a couple of chains is usually a sign of a lubrication problem, or occasionally a problem with how the chain was sharpened. Sometimes it's a reflection of the conditions in which you are cutting (pulling in abrasives as you cut).

Stihl bars have a good reputation for a reason. While it's possible you just got a bad one, I'd be looking for other causes.

Stihl bars aren’t known for the hardest rails in the world but more then likely with nyone hand filing the chains were pulling to one side causing the rails to become soft.

Is it worth the few extra less dollars for this brand vs a brand that you know? How strong are the rivets in the preset? How is this chain test for things like chain shot?

I decided to get the 24 inch bar and a couple chains for the heck of it. First impression is it is Heavy. I knew it wasn't a lightweight bar but man I wouldnt want to have to sling that thing in the woods all day. I dont cut much wood, just cleaning up on my property and helping my dad with his firewood so I wont be a good judge of longevity simply do to the lack of use. I do however like the longer bar. I've always just had a 16 inch bar on it.
