Thanks for the link

Earl Scruggs would be happy -- the young lad does justice to his tune.

I really enjoyed that. Thanks!
If I understand what I am seeing (and hearing), then I must say I have never seen anyone do pitch bends like that. I suppose it's a banjo thing.

How do you make a million dollars playing a banjo?

Start with two million!

Thank you, thank you, I'm here all week - tip your wait staff.
An old joke, not mine, but still funny I think.

All kidding aside, good talents on display there.

Banjos have the same limitations on pitch bends as any other stringed instruments, unless you buy Scruggs/Keith tuners, also called D-tuners that are useful in a limited number of songs.

I was a bit older than him when I learned the song, but way less than 16, and too poor for the tuners, so I practiced doing it by ear. Now I have several banjos, but no Scruggs/Keith tuners yet. My interests in banjo changed to a melodic/chromatic style.

Bottom of the page, note the stop setting buttons:
Banjo Tuning Pegs - Elderly Instruments

An example of what it meant by melodic

Not necessarily that song, but note for note. Blackberry Blossom is a good example too.

YouTube - Blackberry Blossom - John McEuen

In melodic, you can match other instruments note for note, and some of my favorite involves just a banjo and a fiddle.

Thanks for the links EE, I was hoping someone would jump in and ad a bit of info to the D-tuning thing.

I'll be out back, chopping my banjo to bits, cuz it'll never sound like that!
