Re: 84\" Rear finish mower on a 790?

The 790 is 27hp (24pto).

But if you are trying to talk me into the 990 (42hp, 35pto) I'm game... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: 84\" Rear finish mower on a 790?

I would definately look into a 990 or bigger 3X20 series tractor - maybe a 3203 would be perfect for this application. The 84" RFM will be much smoother due to the increase in width of the tires, more weight, and will .....

Just trying to help the justification /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: 84\" Rear finish mower on a 790?

I have an 84" First Choice RFM I use behind a JD1050 (37hp). The mower weighs about 825 lbs, and it is a handfull for the 1050.I'm using 320 lbs of weight on the front and when raising the mower the tractor is VERY easy to steer sometimes. The smallest of bumps will lift the front tires off the ground. I spend some time steering with the rear brakes instead of the steering wheel. I think my tractor weighs about 3150 lbs without weights. I have plenty of hp for the mower, just not quite enough weight to be comfortable. With an 84" mower, a lot of the weight is a greater distance from the 3 point hitch. Not only is it wider than a smaller mower but longer too. I have turf tires on the 1050 and the width of the tractor is 80" or so. I only bought the 84" mower so it would be wider than the rear tires, and it works ok, I just have to be careful with it when I raise it.

Re: 84\" Rear finish mower on a 790?

Thanks for all the advice. I don't need to go 84" just figured if I went bigger than 62" I'd want to go at least 84.

I'll look at them both (790/990).

The 3203 only has a few more horses and you can't get a Mid-Pto on it. It also only takes the 300 loader, not the 300CX like the 990 and the other 3x20 series tractors. It's a lot more than the 790 but not nearly as much tractor as the 990.

The 3x20 series is nice, but you can't order the Mid-Pto without getting the Hydro. I think I'd prefer the 12x12. They are also a lot of $$ compared to the 790, and unless you compare a 3720 they aren't quite as much HP as the 990. Although I have been pricing 3320's and 3520's... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I also don't really need all the electronic stuff (Load Match, The E-Hydro, etc.). Also, once I start looking at the 20 series the Cab's look sooooo nice then they really get expensive.

If only they made a 72" MMM for the 790...

I have a feeling I'll end up with a 990 but we'll see what happens.
