$89,000 for a new diesel pickup, how is it going to pay for it's self ?

I've had mine 12 years and the interior is as new... all the similar ones with leather started to show wear at about year 4...

2002 BMW 325iT with black Naugahyde interior... funny thing is everyone thinks it's leather... even when it was brand new and I was driving it in Germany.

Definitely right on few keeping high end cars past the warranty... no one I work with has kept a 12 cylinder BMW or Mercedes past the warranty and that goes for the Alpina b7, Cadillac STS and Porsche... most of the Docs simply lease.

I've seen a lot of pretty worn leather driver's seats. Leather house furniture seems to stand up OK, so perhaps it is just people not keeping the leather conditioned adequately, and the UV and heat taking it's toll. Back to that lease/dump/why bother concept....

I prefer a good quality cloth for personal vehicles (partly for cold/heat, w/o getting into fancy HVAC), but leather or naugahyde has the advantage of being easier to slide across - helpful for an elderly person with diminished strength.

I have to go back and check, do we have any pics or links for Brian's truck yet ?

Nope not yet. Hoping to order it this week. Since they're build to order, it will be another 8 weeks after it's ordered. I'm really looking forward to it.

My F450 gave me a little scare the end of last week. I was on my way to a job when the message system displayed "STOP SAFELY" a split second before the truck shut off. It took half an hour before I was able to restart it. I made it to the job and was unhooking the trailer when it did it again. Luckily I was able to put my scanner on it and find that it was only one of the EGT sensors reading out of range. It hasn't given me any problems since I replaced it Saturday.

I agree, cloth seat is more comfortable than any other material, but they do grip your clothes making it nearly impossible to slide on them. 2 or my 3 vehicles have leather seat, "because that is how the come" and wife prefers leather to cloth while I am opposite. My 2007 Z71 Chevy truck has all the necessities without many of the bells and whistles, power driver seat,( manual passenger seat), PS, PB, intermittent wipers, power door locks, crew cab, AC with dual side controls and carpet on the floor, power mirrors (a necessity for dual drivers) and power folding mirrors(good for those 8 foot garage doors which I no longer have, AM/FM radio with single disc CD player, 17" tires with aluminum rims and that is about all the options it has. It is plenty comfortable for long drives. IIRC, I paid $29K for it. I don't know what it would cost me 7 year later (has it really been 7 years!!!)
When I bought the wife a new Honda CRV the dealership had only 2 styles, EX and EXL. She wanted the EXL for the leather seats, but it also came with sun roof which I didn't need, heated leather seats (didn't need) and many more options that I barely find and am finding more each time I drive it. Bought it last August and got 3400 miles on it. Wife prefers to drive here old car (Olds Bravada) because she says it is higher up and give better visibility of what's ahead. I put the old car in my shop which is about 100 feet from the house and the new car in the house garage. Unless it is raining, she walks to the shop to get her old car to drive. I thought we might save gas money with the 31 MPG CRV compared to the 16 MPG of the Bravada, but if she wont drive it, it isn't saving much. It will be in good shape though when we get to that $5 or more per gallon gas.

EIGHT WEEKS??? Nor sure if that is a normal lead time or not today. BTW your "Stop safely" alert gave you zero warning so what good is that? I used to drive medium duty trucks with air brakes and when there was a loss of air pressure they gave the driver a lot more warning than a split second. What is the purpose of giving a driver warning when they only have a second to react....DUHHHH.

I'm old enough to remember the order process for light trucks - many dealerships had "the" truck guy - he was the one you wanted to talk to, as the order process for pickups back then was probably a lot like what you just went through with your International.

Looking forward to the pics Brian !

If that sensor is what I think it is, that was the air-brake equivalent to running over a really nasty piece of metal on the road, and having it completely slicing an air line open.

If Ford was using a thermocouple for the EGT sensor, they generally just work..... until they suddenly fail.

But.... I understand your point JD.... more warning is always better. One nicely done bit of code I saw last year was on a Corolla - it threw a Warning of a coolant thermostat that was opening too slowly - driver never noticed anything, but took it into my buddy's shop, before the thermostat caused a big problem.

Considering how hard most F450s work, that EGT sensor is really critical to the engine's survival.

Nice for Brian that the fix was that easy.

I find the seating in Honda cars low.... and not just in terms of visibility - I notice it in my legs and lower back at times.

CRV used to be built off the Accord platform, so that may explain the seating. The roof seems higher on a CRV, so you'd think they could get a bit higher seat position in it.... hard to say w/o driving it.

The seat height in many cars is pretty low - talking regular cars, not Ferraris. I really noticed that getting back on a street motorcycle - I have way better visibility (height wise) than many small cars, and that's just with a regular street bike, not a jacked up dual-purpose MC.

I was thinking car, but I'm now remembering the Bravada as being on GMs mid-size SUV platform..... had the other flavours up here, but didn't get the Olds variant in Canada, AFAIK. That would explain the height difference/preference..... and the much better mileage on the Honda....

^^^ Lots of folks did just that... One person traded his 1968 Mustang fastback with 302 and 4 spd for a new Pinto Wagon...

We had 340 cuda's and Indy Pace Camaro that were traded for a Plymouth Cricket and a Vega...

Large cars of any kind were worth next to nothing...
