8B Backhoe On A 4200?

Has anyone put their own teeth on their backhoe bucket? This is a crimp-on getup. Two of the teeth are worn to the nubs and the other one is almost new. I really hope I don't have to take the bucket to the dealer but I can't figure out any way to put the teeth on.

I have fix a mini-ex bucket a few times for my wife's cousin...the crimp on teeth never stayed on for him so I put a new cutting edge on and pin-on teeth.

When I did replaced the crimped style, I heated the tooth and used a punch to crimp them. If you let the shank get worn...then all bets are off-it will not hold a new tooth.

That's the better kind of teeth. Many hoes come with one piece bolt-on
cast teeth, which are not sharp at all.

I have used off-the-shelf tooth holders that take crimp-on teeth, and
my own shanks. In both cases, I weld the sides of the teeth to the
shank. More secure and not too hard to remove. More here:

I don't have a heat source. Are they weak enough to crimp with a ball joint press (a stronger c-frame clamp) and a two foot breaker bar? Or I can really just weld them without crimping? They don't break loose regularly when digging in the rocks?

that's super nice work arrabil. With all the equipment you already have, you should just by you a used set of torches to heat with.

You don't need super heat like a O/A torch...just propane may be enough. The C-frame might just work-I never treid mine but at least on the bucket I fixed up the teeth where probably to close to use it anyway.

Thanks doall. Yes, I should probably already own torches. They would have been handy more than once by now. But I hate bottles. I have nowhere to put them. Its the same reason I flux-core instead of mig weld.

Kenny, I measured up the ball joint press I have and there was nothing I could do to get it to fit on the middle tooth. Sigh.

I'm gonna buy the teeth today and see what I can figure out from them. I have no problem welding them if they'll stay on.

I have replaced and welded on numerous crimp-on teeth for box blades.
Often the crimp is not adequate from the factory to keep from losing
teeth off the scarifier shanks.

Of course a good crimp will hold, but I have never had a welded on
tooth fall off.

MAPP gas is supposed to be a bit hotter than propane is available at HD.
