Ford 8n
I just picked up a 8n tractor today with a loader on it. I wanted to use it for mowing and wanted the loader. I put the pto in gear let the clutch out and the 3 point won't lift up. It has a home made counterweight on it 55 gallon drum full of concrete. The tractor has been sitting awhile in a barn. I'm going to look into this tomorrow I was going to try flushing the system. I don't know anything about 8n's so what are some simple things I should try first thanks.

One of the first things you are going to learn about an 8N with a loader, is that it is a bear to steer with any weight at all in that loader.
The 8n has no power steering!

Yes, you can sprain or break a finger or wrist. Best to not hook a thumb or fingers inside the steering wheel. BTDT.
Tractordata.com lists the 8N as having 800 lbs of 3pt lift capacity. A full 55 gallon drum of concrete is about 1100 lbs. Did it lift it before?

Enjoy.

I'm not sure if it lifted it before. I just bought the tractor and drove it home 8 miles on winding and hilly pa back roads. I was suprised how well the tractor did. Allot more guts than my b7100 kubota. I'm going to be pulling the counter weight off I have a 60" finish mower that I was using on the kubota I want to put on the Ford.

Is the PTO turned off ? The three point does not work without the PTO turned on, maybe you accidentally turned it off ?

I tried the pto handle both positions. The fluid does seem like it has allot of condensation in it. I went to TCS last night ill be changing the oil and all the drive fluid out.

Changing the fluid now drained all 3 points on the rear im assuming the only fill plug is ontop of the transmission. Put some diesel in the trans fill letting it sit. The oil came out like thick mustard its definitely saturated in moisture.

After changing the fluids it seems the 3point wants to move now. But seems to be binding. Theirs two extra arms that have bolts in them and they are slotted like they slide are these a lock? My other tractor isn't set up like this please excuse my ignorance.

I have never seen those type inner bars before. You should be able to lift the arms by hand when no implement is attached.

Edit: Added a link: http://www.ntractorclub.com/howtos/pdfs/Bars-101.pdf. They are stay bars, to prevent lifting up.
