Personally I like to see some usage just to know the oil is getting to all the right places.

All motors use some oil, just usually not enough to even see on the dip stick. My last Saturn on the other hand used a qt every 800 miles, excessive in my eyes but not GM's. They said a quart every 300 miles was ok.:confused2:

Yep i have seen and heard this a lot. My saturn uses about the same amount. It has increased here in the last 20K but i think its mainly from external leaks. Like the valve cover which now causes the transmission and some of the front of the motor to be wet from oil seeping. I have had the gasket for a long time just have not got around to changing it. It also leaks into the #1 plug well and causes that plug to sit in an "oil bath". It does smoke at first start up and when you take of that first time. After that the only time you see any is when its revved way up and then shifts, say maybe the 4K+ mark. It uses about one quart every 800-1000. All gms i have had use oil, except the GMC jimmy i had it would not move in 3K miles on the stick and it had 200K on it? My work blazer used about 1 qt or 1.5 qt every 7 thousand miles. MY ford ranger uses about 1 qt every 500-700 miles.

My 2 Saturns I have owned never leaked a drip, they just used it.

I have owned vehicles from Ford, Nissan, Toyota, Honda, Chrysler, Lexus, and my family (mom & dad) have owned the same brands and Volvo, Infinity, ect and we have never had a vehicle that has needed a drop of oil between changes other than GM products. Both my Saturns did, my S-10 Blazer did, my fathers current Corvette, ect. Many friends with GM's, mainly trucks, Corvettes, and Caddies all use some oil between changes. Not sure why GM's seem to use it but it does not really cause any issues other than being a pain in the rear as long as your remember to check it. The motors seem to run for ever.

Only one I have owned that did not use oil was the 05 Dmax.

My last Saturn that I sold in May had 140,000 miles on it and ran like a top. Just used 3 extra quarts of oil between 3,000 mile changes. Crazy, that thing used more oil than gas.:confused2:

My father in law who ran a shop and always seemed to drive gm says the same thing. GMs all use oil, its normal.

The crazy think is my 2.8 blazer i still have just not running does not use any oil inbetween changes and its got bigger tires so its bogged down and over running everywhere it goes.

We have Buick Regal 3.8L with 240 000 miles and it doesn't use any noticeable oil between oil changes.
