914A MMM mulch kit?

I've never noticed the matting. Even when it is wet I haven't noticed that - just the blobs when it clogs.

It does a beautiful job when it is dry and the grass isn't too tall. Couldn't ask for anything to mow any better.

R4s. I've noticed no scuffing other than if it is wet and I go into a corner too hard & too sharp. If it is dry or I slow down no problems - even in 4wd. Jerry (Inspector507) as turfs on his TC18.

On another subject: Anyone consider modifying their rear discharge and notching the back out a little? Hey, at least I'm not drilling my ROPS. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks, your feedback on the matting has sealed the deal for me...taking the rear-discharge. Just sounds like I need to mow often and only when it's dry, should be easy enough right (grinning)?!
Thanks again.

I mowed the whole lot yesterday and got no bogging down at all.....I actually set the rear of the deck 1" higher than the front. To experiment a bit, I tried at a level setting for the first 100' or so and had to stop twice to let the clippings escape. Then raised the rear ½" and it got better. Raised it to 1" in the rear and cut the rest of the day with no problems at all.
have you ever gotten matting because the rear tires run over the exiting grass
Never saw anything matted down except for the usual tire lines you'll see, whether you're mowing or not.

I have turfs and love 'em.

Jim, that evil thought has come to mind twice now, but it'd be hard to put it back if I was wrong....... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

They sell this as a mulching deck, but I think if ½"-1" were cut out of the rear, it would help considerably.

Thanks Inspector. So rear-discharge set 1" higher in the rear takes the cake, eh? Thanks for conducting the study and I'm glad to hear it worked out much better - good for you (and me shortly!)!!!

Hey, another question since you are very knowledgeable and have the same tractor setup I'm looking to purchase. Can you get the TC24DA with any other options or add-ons, like armrests, rear working lights, etc???
Thanks.

There is a rear work light kit available. The wiring is already there for it.
As for arm rests.....?? I have no idea, none are available for my TC18. The 24 has a different seat, so maybe......

If you EVEN THINK you might want a rear remote outlet, order it with the tractor, price is about $255. If you get it later, it's $255+ installation. It's a bear to install.

I've stated a number of times here at TractorByNet that I just love my 914A MMM (Side Discharge). It is a fabricated deck and is a beautiful thing in the face of repairs or when colliding with the unknown (if I had seen it, it would have been known! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif )

But I must say, after a couple of years wrestling with the discharge chute on the deck, including initially taking the Ralph Nader Bolt out of the chute so it could articulate,; removing it and cutting off about an inch of leading edge so it was level with the ground; removing it to straighten it; etc., etc., I just left it off one day so I could get the job done.

Yea, I Know, I Know, but the cut drastically improved, especially in wet grass. No more windrows of grass, the grass flew out the side twice as far when dry mowing, and it didn't eat horsepower.

I left the chute behind mid season last year and have no plans to return it to the deck; I'm having too much fun seeing the results. Mind you, I am out away from everything, and am especially careful to stop mowing when at the road if cars pass.

I love the side discharge deck too, for in the fall, the leaves not only get mulched, but I can direct them where I want them.

As for mulching, you may want to look into Gator Blades, offered by NH dealers and available on the internet. check out the activity on TractorByNet concerning these blades.

Derek,

Read the following thread. High Lift

You might want to try the Gator blades. There is people impressed with them even on the the rear discharge. You will be surprised at how chopped up the grass blades are when they come out of the shoot.

Murph
