Got it! Like this for instance ?
CTM3 deere filetype=pdf - Google Search

Great find, although that same Google search also shows this one. It is a later version and includes index search. My paper copy is the 1989 version so nice to have this later electronic copy. The red box on the first page shows this is from a dealer cd that would include other manuals. On the cd clicking the red box would take you to the cd index for the other manuals on it. Of course here it does nothing.

Wow, a free copy of the CTM3 PDF. That's great! You don't usually find
the JD PDFs given away free, and JD does charge significant $ for them.

The CTM3 seems to cover all the Series 220 Engines, and there are a lot
of them, for CUTs all the way up to the 1070 4-cylinder. At 718 pages, it
is much larger than the Technical Manual at 570 pages. Everyone with
these engines should grab a copy while you can.

In looking at the specs for the 955, I see that the engine is not listed
the same way as in the TM. TM (and eyeballs) say the engine is a
3TN84RJ, where the T means tractor, the 84 is bore diam in mm, the R
means DI, and the J is for John Deere. In the CTM3, the engine is listed
as 3TN84UJ, where the U means indirect injection. Compression ratio is
listed as a bit lower, too. I think the CTM3 is in error.

My 1989 CTM3 paper copy does shows the correct 3TN84RJ number. It does not though have that same specification chart as the later version so I can't compare compression ratio.

Yes, the manual does cover a LOT of engines. Unfortunately for me, it does not seem to cover the 3TNE88-ECS that is in my 955. I'm sure a lot of the information is still useful to an extent, but I do not have any hard specs on my particular engine.

I know you mentioned that before....where did you get this engine?

It was already in the tractor when I bought it. I've talked two of the previous owners and it was already there when both of them had it. The trail of previous owners goes cold there.... so, I have no idea what piece of equipment the engine was sourced from. To the best of my knowledge, it is not from another Deere (engine is gray, not black and has a plain Yanmar data plate instead of a "John Deere" data plate like my other Yanmar powered JD has).

I'm pretty sure other JD tractors (4410) used this engine, but it must be covered by a different CTM.
