99 dodge ram 3500 td info?

I had a 98 Dodge Ram and the bottom of the doors were just starting to rust when I sold it in 2007. Its surface rust and can be stopped if you get on it. It starts under the weather stripping and spreads until it creeps up the outside bottom of the door.

I tend to notice trucks and Dodges don't rust out anymore than the other brand of trucks. I think Chevys tend to be the worse, and Dodge and Ford about the same. I know the Ford HD's see to be pretty good as I don't notice them rusting at all.

must be a northern thing. my 98 1500 ram has no rust on it at all.. at least not body panels.. xfer case has a lil.. but normal.

will have to look at that 53 block issue.

and for the pump.. wow.. that's alot of money...

I could mention Daddy's truck experiences, but his is a '01 2500 and still has less than 40k miles. Hasn't been over 70mph either, but don't get to thinking that he only drives it to church on Sunday, because he uses to do whatever he wants, like hauling cows to auction and firewood to my Sister's house, etc. Just another work truck that till you consider just how many years that motor will last at the rate he is currently driving it.

Buddy has one. 235k and still going strong. Has a straight pipe and rv injectors. Runs strong and pulls like an ox. That is the only good thing about the truck. Power windows quit. Front end is shot for third time and has electric issues with lights working sporadically. No tranny problems yet it is a stick.

Love my 99 ctd which I bought new. 5spd, aftermarket clutch and some HP toys.

Vermont salt has all but put the Dodge part of it out to pasture.

Rust everywhere.
Still runs strong but almost impossible to pass inspection now.

I would love to find the same truck from outside the rust belt.

Mine never spent a night in a garage and it looks like it too. The engine has had amsoil since the 2nd oil change. It always starts, even at -40f.

Lift pumps, front end components(3x), power steering pump and vacuum pump (they share a drive shaft), and the clutch. Several slave cyl for the clutch but that falls under the HP self inflicted punishment.

I was surprised on my trip to Ct an Vt 10 years ago, to see cars with lots of rust, but at the same time the vegetation roadside looked healthy. I would have expected salting the roads would kill all the roadside vegetation and damage streams ect.

I thought all manfacturers had some kind of rust through warrantee, even longer than powertrain?
