997 ZTR Diesel

Picked up my new 997 ZTR this evening. I tried mowing with it for a few minutes, mainly concentrating on just driving it and getting used to how it handles. It should cut my mowing time quite a bit. It's really built solid. Has the 72" 7 Iron deck, shaft drive to the mower.

You have no idea how much you are going to love this machine. What are you doing posting pics, you could be out mowing your pastures with it...

Called my dealer this morning. He's got a bumper on the way. Thanks for the suggestion. That bumper's not cheap but that hood/radiator would cost a lot more!

You got it. we sold our first 997 and 30 minutes after delivery he had done almost 500 dollars in damage. From there on we will only sell one without if the customer insists. Your welcome. Glad I could help.

How much did the bumper end up costing you? Also if I purchase one, I think I would have to paint it green before mounting it on the mower.

The bumper is going to cost about $370.

CAUTION: DO NOT BUY A 997 ZTR IF YOU LIKE TO SPEND ALL YOUR TIME MOWING. If you buy one you will find that your mowing time is nearly cut in half. I have just finished cutting my grass with the 997 and it probably took half the time to do the job. Beautiful cut, fast turns. Rides rougher than a CUT but mainly that's because you're going faster. I may eventually get the suspension seat. I LIKE IT!!!

I purchased my 997 in August of 2006 after selling my 990 and am pretty pleased with the machine. I too have cut half the time off my mowing which is nice so I can concentrate on other tasks. Great power and cuts awesome. Only gripe I have is that under the radiator area my paint is starting to bubble off. The battery is not even close to it so I know it's not acid damage.

Last summer I was brush hogging my field, and noticed a dust cloud on my neighbor's 3 acre yard. Every now and then I got glimpses of a green machine streaking among the dust clouds. That thing was flying.

A few days later he told me is was the big diesel JD ZTR mower that someone wanted him to try out. He said it doesn't get any better. Judging by how fast he mowed his yard, I would have to agree!

The only negative is that it does ride rough compared to a CUT. That's because you tend to want to go faster and hit bumps harder than with a tractor. I found I can mow at about the same speed as I did with my 4400 but the time savings comes in how quick you can turn. You really waste time with a tractor on the turns.

Don't compare this to Deere's current Z800 series flop! The 997 is a friggin beast!
