OWDouglas, Get your carb straightened out yet?
Question does it idle ok ? Just won't take rpm without gagging and such. Choke is off ,and no adjustments on carb other than under the bowl, The bowl adjust screw with spring on it is not a drain it is the hi speed adjust. Try to adjust it with the auger engaged ,Try it one way then the other to smooth out your hi-speed chugging or gagging of the motor problem.
There is on some models a plug that was mentioned in a previous post.
The reason I know about this is I had the same problem on my little riding mower, Idled good ran bad ,fiddled with it a minute or two and wal-lah smooth operation.Hope it helps /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Hi Nasty, no I haven't solved anything yet, fortunatly it's been a snowless January so he hasn't even used it yet (although today we are getting it )

The Idle is not smooth it keeps reving then backfires then drops down,it's a continuous cycle like that. I tried that adjustment on the bowl, nothing changed, but I did not have the auger engaged. I the only thing about that adjustment is when you touch it the spring load starts to drain gas. I'll try it when I get over there, thanks for the info, I'll keep you updated.

Is it a Tecumseh?

If so, certain carbs from Tecumseh actually have a 'capture' valve that is embedded in the body of the carb. I believe it is really a pin that is pulled one direction or the other (vertically) by vacuum to adjust the fuel flow in the idle circuit. A screen or cover is swaged to the body to hold the pin into place. If you take the carb off and remove the float assy (pay attention to the cir-clip!), shake the body gently and see if you can hear this valve. It should be lose and free.

If not trash the carb and buy another one. It is non repairable.

Best, Brian

Thanks Brian, It is a Tecumseh, I'll check that also. It's just been to **** cold up here to work in an unheated garage. I'll have to wait until it gets back into the 30's or so. I guess I should have done it the last week when it was 68 degrees, but I chose to go fishing!!!!(not too many January 60 degree days in Buffalo) Calling for a big storm over the weekend so it will just have to chug along for now. Thanks everybody.

A lot of the newer carbs have fixed jets & are nonadjustable. An EPA thing.

The EPAs mission is to reduce or eliminate pollution never mind if their requirements mean an engine won't run.
In fact A non running engine resultss in zero pollution.

OWDdouglas , Well it may be that the govenor is out off adjustment, When it is idling can you see the carb linkage moving back & forth as its trying to keep running?

This is a somewhat difficult trouble to isolate over the keyboard because it sounds fuel related , it could be any one of the things mentioned previously from float level ,dirt in needle and seat,fuel-air mixture ,govenor ,or even bad gas, if the engine componets are good (compression test would help determine) rings and valves .

How old is this snowblower and engine?

If everything appears to be ok then my vote is for checking the govenor....

When its running if the linkage is moving back & forth can you hold it in place , If you can and the engine smooths out ,its the govenor, If it dies its a fuel delivery issue.... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
