This is kind of weird...
Lately dozens of buzzards have taken to landing on my rooftop and just sitting there all day.
I usually don't mind when I see them down by the pond, but this is starting to make me nervous:))
For the life of me, I can't figure out why they're there.
I can usually go out and pop off a round from the 12 ga. to scare them, but they keep coming back. Any suggestions??? They're noisy, and they're leaving a mess on the roof.

thanks,

Anthony

To combat wood peckers drilling into my ridge cap, I cut strips of tree netting and streached them across the ridges. It seems no birds like to have their feet tangled up in the netting. Wood pecker prob solved.

They may be roosting in the trees by your house. If it were me i would start taking them out one at a time if they refuse to leave. Have there more and more showing up?

I believe that both Black and Turkey Vultures (buzzards) are Federally protected species. Both varieties roost in some woods near our place and can be really unsightly. Especially in the morning when they spread their wings to dry them. They also can make a mess of your roof, deck, etc. The Black Vulture has a nasty habit of regurgitating their most recent meal (and you know what they eat, right?) when approached or disturbed. Vulture puke is not something you want anywhere near you!

If any die of lead poisoning on your property, you better be prepared to hide or otherwise eliminate the evidence in case the MAN shows up.

You might also find this interesting.

This reminds me of a recent story here in Texas, South of Dallas.
This very very large flock of protected birds moved into to the trees at this guy's land and primary residence. 10s of thousands of birds just showed up one day, maybe due to the drought, who knows. He had no idea what to do, so he called the parks and wildlife people. They told him in no uncertain terms that he could not try and make them leave. They also told him he could not make any noise that might disturb the birds, like mowing his lawn or running a tractor.

Not that you'll have this type of problem, but if they are protected try and get rid of them somehow.
