I was at the friendly Kubota dealer today and we were talking about stuff that's coming out.

I'm not exactly sure which model we were talking about (I thought it was the 2006 series BX with cab) but he mentioned that the A/C for the cab uses 9 HP. On a BX size tractor, that doesn't leave much left.

Can someone confirm that:
1. There's a cab for the BX
2. The air cond. uses 9 HP.

I was always under the impression that it was 2-3hp. On the cab tractors you can flip the air on and off while driving full speed and not really feel it hickup at all, IMO... his numbers are off, but so could mine.

So there is a new BX coming out in 2006? Did he say anything else about that? There is already a cab available for the current BX from Kubota - if you look under the BX2230 pages on the Kubota site there is some info available.

You're right, it's only 2-3 hp. Maybe he's thinking hydro and ac.

Our L5030 HSTC doesn't notice if the AC is on or off when baling or mowing with the haybine.

Without all the details, things will change for the BX in '06. It sounds like the whole line of BX are changing.

What do you mean by "hydro and ac"?

The rule of thumb for A/C is that the compressor will use about 1 hp per ton of cooling. Many of the systems that cars and trucks use are in the 4 to 5 ton capacity range. With all the glass in a tractor cab the heat load is probably about the same as a full size suburban, so 4 or 5 horsepower would not be out of line.

I read this thread a couple times and just noticed your mention of a possible BX with AC.

Anyone heard of such a beast? Any chance of a small frame B Series AC cab model?
