Smoke Detector in the garage. Excellent idea! I wonder if there is a product that would use the 120 wiring to a remote plug-in alarm in the house.

There are times aluminum and steel grinding dust get mixed together. Burnt up a belt grinder that way.
Thats Thermite: they weld railroads by melting them together, simply by igniting an aluminium powder with iron oxide powder mixture.

I’ve hard time using a smoke detector in the shop. Too much welding and grinding. Having to disconnect and remember to connect battery.

Do follow a practice from work to do one hour fire watch after welding or grinding. Usually taking time to clean, sweep and put away tools. Housekeeping always an important aspect of fire prevention.

Switched to metal from wood shelving removed a truckload of wood from the shop. Limit cardboard and paper. Vigorous mouse control by mouse proofing metal cabinets.
