You should consider putting on a fuel sediment bowl. Like they used to use on old mowers like L gravelys and Cub cadets from the 70's. It seems to do the trick.

Noticed the inlet needle/valve is plastic; as I recall a different one w/ a metal body is available which prevents it from sticking as the plastic one is prone to do. Your dealer service dept should know about this & be able to give you the new part number. May fix your problem once and for all.

Jinman:

You mention a black powder. I'm wondering if there is something in your gasoline that is attacking the fuel hoses causing bits of rubber to flake off and clog things up.

Justwork and mjncad, I've had the carburetor apart about 6 times. When the 7th non-start time happened, I'd had enough and drained the fuel from the tank and replaced it. I choked the engine heavily and it fired off and sputtered for awhile before running smoothly. I've used the mower three times since with no issues. I'm gonna get me a Mr. Funnel and use it for gas, but I'm also gonna quit using the water hose around the gas tank when I clean the mower. I think there is a leak in the tank somewhere that is sucking in water as the tank cools when I rinse it with cold water. That could even be the gas cap. I believe my problem probably has been some water in the gasoline. That's my current theory.

Is this the fuel shut off solenoid on your LA 145? I have a LA 135 with very similar fuel starvation symptoms. I've checked the fuel pump operation and my next step is to check the fuel cut off solenoid for correct operation. Thanks

Does anyone know how to remove it without destroying it?

SandburRanch.... The thread you opened was started by Jinman, a charter member and contributor on Tractorbynet. Jinman sorry to say is no longer with us.

All of these guys have been gone for several years, I remember Jinmam as a nice and helpful member, RIP. mjmcad also did some nice work and was well informed too.

About the fuel shut off, IIRC this will unscrew from the carb without issue and the internal plunger retracts when energized to allow the float to drop and open the needle valve.

I'm very sorry to hear of those no longer with us.

This post by " justwork "was in the back of my mind all the while I was locating the problem.

Removed the manifold and found the carburetor bowl to be empty. Sure enuff they won't run like that and I found the needle valve to be stuck closed. Cleaned the valve body with 600 grit wet/dry sand paper and all is well now.

I really don't want to see what Briggs's next move is in an attempt to make common folks take their engines to the dealer for repair.

Thanks All.
