A different type of receiver hitch.

Thanks for the reply, Brent. That is what I thought from looking at the picture, but I wanted to be sure.

I like the idea of the receiver and I think you will find it very handy.

For those who plan on doing something similar, let me share my experience.

I just welded on a hitch when I needed it, but when I got to doing a lot of blade work, the hitch causes problems with the rolling action of the sod, trash, whatever, when backing up, so I cut mine back off & bolted one on that could be removed when needed.

I like this one a lot better than the 3ph drawbar with ball hitch. Closer to my idea of a reciever bolted straight to drawbar, with upside down 6" drop ball mount. Just haven't figured why I would need it yet. Whatever are you guys doing to trailers that it takes a tractor to pull it?

I have a tow bar on the front of a dump truck. Hook the truck to it and go to the other side of the farm with both at the same time would be one example.

With a dump trailer you can go to the dirt supply, set trailer down, load the trailer with FEL, and drive to the dump site. The hitch behind the box allows you to keep a counterweight box on for FEL work. The 3pt eliminates the jack cranking.

Also good when collecting tree limbs.

Neil,

Nice improvement on a good idea. I'll have to do the same. Perhaps a receiver with a bolt on plate will get the best of both ideas. I hope to also add a water level to my box so I can see if it is level across the back.

I see you have a REAL box blade. Have you used a light one also and seen a difference? I hope to help the TBN viewers think of a tractor/implement as a system. The quality of the implement has a big effect on the productivity of the system, and box blade quality is very poor to very high.

A $1000 used Gannon box on a $5000 2WD tractor will move mountains compared to a new $400 TSC box behind a new $28,000 HST 4WD tractor. Balance the implement quality to match the tractor performance.

What do you think?

How did I twist this into a box blade subject?

Water level sounds like a good idea.

This is the only box blade I have ever owned. Bought it new some 25 years ago. I agree the heavy box blade probably will outwork the lighter weight ones. I also like the hydraulic teeth. Sure is nice when teeth hang in some buried wire, to be able to just curl them up to unhook. Also with this heavy box, it works well with a draft control, to do a good job.

Maybe we can let everybody get back on subject now. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Yes, Mark... you do. It's the handiest thing I've done for myself in years and was fun as well. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
