If Grandma had %*&$ she would be Grandpa too.
I am not blind and I am not a police officer with a K-9 dog. The dog might be a companion to them but is a pet for me.I do not depend on my pets...they depend on me.

Pet= a domesticated animal kept for pleasure rather than utility.

Companion=
A person who accompanies or associates with another; a comrade.
A domestic partner.
A person employed to assist, live with, or travel with another.
One of a pair or set of things; a mate.
It sounds funny...instead of how many pets/dogs do you have in your house...how many animal companions do you have.
Where did you buy your animal companion ??
How old is your animal companion...??
Thats a nice looking animal companion......
Your animal companion is chasing cars ....
Your animal companion pooed in my yard.....
There is a pack of wild animal companions running loose in the woods....
My animal companion chewed up my slippers....

I don't buy into political correct stuff..

Ah, yes, the last refuge when people disagree, accuse them of being 'politically correct', that'll show 'em. Just because someone disagrees with you doesn't mean they are being PC. Although accusing them of it does save the mental effort of considering what they say. Some people call them companians, others call them pets. So what? It's not like the dog will know the difference.

Who cares what people call their dogs? I call them my dogs, and there is no higher compliment. Are they domestic partners as well? Yes. Working partners on the farm? Yup. Trusted companions? Well, when I fell head first down our springhouse one icy winter morning it was two of my dogs who grabbed my pant cuffs and kept me from drowning in our water supply. So in my book that makes them trusted companions.

Why are you all fired up about semantics? Call your dog whatever you want. What difference does it make what other people call theirs?

Boondox I agree with you and would say you've had the last word, What's it matter. There has been rabbits hamsters turtles fish etc around here at one time or another, all pets because all were useless and had to be fed. The dogs on the other hand are not pets, all have served a usefull purpose besides providing that companionship and have deserved every tidbit of food and care lavished on them. The last couple nights have been frigid, down to -25c and I forced her to stay in the house while I was away at work. Well she damaged the door trim but I don't care because she might have froze otherwise.
