A familiar Odor? eBAY

Well, you all have me convinced of the POTENTIAL of fraud here.

I am not sure, but I believe there is a method to notify EBay of a suspected fraudulent listing.

Maybe someone could collect the comments in this thread, and send it to EBay. They have ways of checking the origin of the sellers IP, etc. to uncover fraud. Believe me, they will investigate.

Hakim, my personal feeling is we have POTENTIAL for fraud, but not much more than that YET. If the seller does not respond to inquiries about where the tractor can be inspected, or if the seller responds with a phone number that is not in the area code where the tractor is located, then I would think it would be appropriate to alert Ebay regarding fraud. Until someone gets something that really raises up a red flag, I think that innocent until proven guilty still prevails. I have turned in suspected fraud to Ebay in the past and would gladly do so this time, if something else starts to smell fishy.

eBay doesn't make it easy to notify them of fraudulent auctions. I have tried to do so in the past and they have set up walls to keep things like this from getting through. It can be done, but not easily. I have given up trying. It just isn't worth the effort since I don't believe that they appreciate the effort that is required to be expended to accomplish this. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I don't think reporting these type of auctions is that difficult. I go to this link to do it.

Good reference. There is an option:

"Report a link you think is fraudulent (you didn't bid)."

Seems like this is precisely what it is for.

I agree on the principle of "innocent until proven..." In this case, though, the sum of money involved is quite high, and there is more than one "odd" element to the transaction.

I have taught my children that the easiest test of fraud, is when something is said or happens that is "out of the normal sequence of how such transaction occur." You usually get a "feeling" when such out-of-sequence events happen.

Several people agree that this is what has happened here...not "proof" but that "feeling" or, "odor" that a Black Hat may be near. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I think that is very broken english for "GPS".

... and hey, it has a "Suspension". Least they got that right!

BTW, the properties on the images posted looked unusual, they all had different subnets for URLs ... not see this before:

http://i10.ebayimg.com/01/i/01/7b/6a/c8_2.JPG

Go to the root of that URL and surprise!
Anyone recognize that watermark, lower right corner?

Interesting.

What/who is the watermark?

Here is the trace on the URL. It doesn't seem to surprising, does it?

Hakim, I was talking about the watermark on the images for that item.

Lower right-hand corner. Looked liked somethign I'd seen before, but that doesn't mean I actually have. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Wonder if eBay knows there's a huge IT braintrust over here at TBN vetting their aucutions! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
