Makes sense... It would dry quite a bit faster on the ground.
The summer down here is typically hot enough to dry most
anything. This year has been rainy and cool and yields are suffering as a result.
One typically will only find a swather on a very large hay operation (i.e. not very often)
so I'm curious when I see one.

We're actually getting some unseasonably late heat this year in and have touched 30 degrees this week but with humidity up to 72% nothings been drying..?
