Keep us posted, and more pics please, especially with the black smoke Rollin'!! The 66 series is my all time fav IH, and especially love the 1066.

Good luck, hope the beans do well.

BTW, where in PA are you from?? Sis and BIL live in Harrisburg, down there every summer for the 4th of July week. See tons of farms on the way down, beautiful scenery to say the least!!

Will---We live 45 miles west of Harrisburg.
Hopefully the 1066 will be finished next week, it is now being put back together.
We go to the Rideau Lakes region of Ontario quite often and I always marvel at the beauty of the lakes. Seems to be a lot of scrub land in the area but we also see some darn nice farms. I'm seeing more soybeans planted in that part of Ontario.
The insurance adjustor was here yesterday to look at the beans and I was told that the one field is a complete loss due to deer damage. I do have other fields that are going to give me a half decent yield.
You are more than welcome to stop in for a visit the next time you are in Harrisburg.

What a great old tractor. Done right, this rebuild will probably outlast most of us. You'll be able to pull just about anything you hitch up to. Not to be nosy, but I'm guessing you may spend up to $5-6K depending on parts and labor cost??? Is your mechanic "rolling" new bearings into place or did he tear her all the way down and measure. Many a bearing have gone bad due to the oil getting old in the sump and the acid etching the bearing down.

Does the AC work? Are you going to give it a "Dupont" overhaul too (paintjob)? Sorry about all the questions.

A dealer about 25 miles south of me had a so-so 1066 that he was asking about $7K for. It pretty much needed everything. It was tired. Not sure what he ended up getting for it.

There is a "good condition" 1066 advertised locally, I'd be worried about getting into the same story as you! I am looking for something to plow with though.

Kyle----It was torn "all the way down". The block was sent to a machine shop, can't tell you what all was done there and the head was also sent away. The rebuild kit contains new sleeves, pistons, bearings, seals, etc.
He had the injectors checked yesterday at the local JD dealer and they are all fine. Hopefully when it is finished it will be like a new tractor. It does not have AC, just a heater. It was painted when I bought it, has dual radials on the back and new tires on the front.
Not sure yet of the final price, I'm guessing with the recored radiator it will be around $4,000.
I can tell you this slowzuki, there are some decent ones out there but I think few and far between. IF I was going to buy another one it would have to be with a rebuilt or reman engine with records proving that it had been worked on. There are so many things in these old tractors that could have been abused and neglected you just never know what could go wrong, even when you're dealing with an honest seller.

I've always been amazed at the small rubber the boy's in Penn. have put on tractors! We run the 38" on 1066's and 20.8. The engines have enough torque on our hill's they so to speak go up in smoke!

Al----I wish it had the 38's, would give me better traction. I would leave the duals on all the time but can't plow with them, they are definitely needed when pulling the IH 18 ft disc. It is a heavy old brute.

These things are at the age that if you want to purchase one, you should leave money in the budget to overhaul it. Unless of course you know the history of the tractor and it has been rebuilt.

My buddy has had to do the radiator on his 966 and it still runs good but is getting a little tired.

We brought the 1066 home this morning, I was treated real fair on the overhaul. Total of $3600 and that included the oil and fuel filters, oil and antifreeze. He replaced the spring in the TA and a few other odds and ends that needed worked on. Seems to run strong, will put it to work tomorrow with the fall plowing.:)
