Arkansas has a flat rate for license and titles. I paid just $51.50 for registration of my Chevy Truck and wife's SUV. My truck has Veterans plates and only costs $3.50?? I think. Trailers are registered for life for one time fee of about $35 IIRC (which is hard to recall sometimes). The $51.50 I have listed in my current checkbook so I know that is accurate. Here in Arkansas when you buy a new vehicle, the sales tax has to be paid to the state tax comptroller when you get your license plate. So the $27,318 I paid to the car dealer for my wife' Honda CR-V EXL also cost me and additional $1853.42 for sales tax (6.5% for automobiles), title and registration at the county tax collector/registration office. Additionally, you have to get property tax clearance letter from county court house showing that you have no delinquent property taxes prior to registering any vehicle.

Not only registration is bad. My CPA smarted off about complying with the new barter law where they put a value on the bartered transaction, or something like it. I told her to let the IRS prove the transaction ever occurred!

TN is cheap by comparison. Privately owned vehicle is $24 regardless of size or age ( I have 2 cars, 2 trucks, & 32' motorhome & all same license fee). My 2011 Silverado has commercial plate, that one is $40. The 100% of state fuel tax paid at the pump goes directly to DOT for road maintenance. The larger metro areas, Nashville & Memphis, add a road tax to help pay for road repairs due to heavier traffic and use "out-landers" coming in and using their roads.

Kind of misleading,some states don't have "income tax" and make revenues thru vehicle registrations.
Come to NY and you will have both!

As is RI. Plus, RI is one of five states that income taxes pensions. And we are state taxed an additional .18 cents per gallon over federal tax for what I thought went in for repair coffers What else for one to expect in a "sanctuary" state such as this.

I just got the renewal on my F-250. It is $66.00. I pay $5.00 for my pick up bed trailer. My understanding is these fees are supposed to go into the road maintenance "kitty", but if it is like everything else, they divert it to spend wherever they want to.

The Inspection fee differences is due to the Buick falling under the EPA regs. The F350 falls out of the emissions inspection.

In IL license plates are $101 for plain plates and $108 for personalized. I don't know what vanity plates cost. $2 of the listed price goes to the DNR. My 14' 7000 pound rated trailer has 8000 pound plates which are $58 a year, plus another $19 every six months for vehicle inspection sticker. Get caught without the sticker or expired sticker and the fine is $500.
