I guess I'm one of those people who can.

There was a study done that identified that as long as the first letter and last letter were correct, the middle letters could be jumbled and your mind will sort it out. Now everyone is different, so some can work with more letters jumbled than others.

I remember back in the 80's there was a tv show called "Mr. Wizard". One of my favorite shows. Anyway in this one particular episode, he had a board with sayings on it, but each had a typo, but the kids who would be looking at the sign didn't know about the typos. He flashes the sign quickly about a second each time, and the kids had to read it in those seconds and make out the saying. The one that tripped up all the kids was:
"A dog is a man's best fiend".
No one saw the typo because their minds knew the correct saying, so it would just bypass the typo. It wasn't until he held the sign still so they could read it slowly and find the error.
