A question for those who open carry

Actually, it was just a bad shoot. He apparently shot too soon, well before he even knew what was going on.

Police determine Friday shooting was not a burglary

Shooting someone in real life isn't like shooting someone on TV. On TV the shooter just walks away, problem solved, but in real life the shooter will likely be facing years of attorney expenses even if he did nothing illegal. I'm thinking of joining NRA and signing up for their Carry Guard insurance.

USCC has had the same sort of policy for a few years now, compare before buying in.

Even with these new CC insurance policies being offered, your shots must be justified or they'll not help ya. Taking a shot should be the last option to losing your life or being gravely injured.

I agree and thanks for the info ... last option for sure! The insurance buys time because if you know (education required) you're acting legally you don't have to take that split second to think about the consequences. That split second could be the difference between living or dying.

I carry concealed every day. I work in north St. Louis City, and the street I work on was recently awarded the coveted "Most Violent Street in America" tag. Chances of being caught up in someone else's bad day are significantly higher than most other places. Someone gets shot around here pretty much every day, so it's not paranoia. I will open carry occasionally on our own land, or on friends' property. However, it's not allowed in public in Illinois. We also suffer from severe weight of the law if we ignore a no firearms sign. I've never been a big fan of open carry, personally, but I don't mind when others do. Even if it becomes legal in Illinois, I likely still won't, and instead continue with concealed carry.

IMO some of you folks need to get real...America does not need the average citizen out running errands and going to the grocery store, the auto parts store, etc., etc...to be carrying...period...
...I love guns and think everybody should have one ( or several) but the last thing I want to be close to is some amateur idiot that happens to have a ccp trying to save the day when there is a a lot of citizens about... so why do you feel the need to carry?....I am a gun lover and shooting enthusiast...member of the IRA for 48 years....just don't get the need...

I'm a farmer who views guns as a tool, just like a shovel or an axe. I have a female black bear with two young cubs on my property and the occasional cougar passing through, so I carry some heavy artillery in a sidearm holster around home, either a .357 or a .44 magnum. I don't open carry in town because it makes people paranoid, but if I'm heading into a large city I always carry a little .38 loaded with +P. With only 5 rounds I'm not going to be getting into any firefights, but a couple of rounds to center of mass should slow down the average attacker. I define "large city" as any city with areas where you don't want to go after dark.

I have nothing good to say about the NRA, which has turned into a right wing propaganda organization. The last straw for me was when they put Obama on the cover of American Hunter.

The NRA may be the only reason that you are allowed to own a firearm of any type, much less a handgun in .347 or .44!

If protecting your 2nd Amendment rights is right wing, then yes they are right wing!!

I'm also a member of the NRA. There are a lot of things I don't much care for about the NRA, but it is the most powerful and effective organization we have to preserve our rights, Others, like the Gun Owners of America and the 2nd Amendment Foundation are good, but just not as much influence as the NRA.

I carry concealed. Open carry has never appealed to me for various reasons.

Then it dawned on me the other day, the BIGGEST reason why I would never carry concealed is something that I actually never gave much thought until the other day sitting on the hopper in a rest room.

If you open carry and you want to go shopping or anywhere else off your property, how do you know who exactly will allow weapons on their premises? You wear a gun and everyone can see it, you come up to a store that doesn't allow weapons, what do you do? If you go in you're busting the stores request and there is a good chance you can get the law called on you.

The reality is unless you come across a metal detector and you carry concealed, no one knows, period.

In alabama, we are an open carry state. I some times oc and sometimes cc. If I come upon a store with a sign that states no guns allowed. I go in anyway. Here signs bear no weight of law. The store mgr may ask you to leave, or to return your gun to your vehicle. Only thing store mgr/owner can do here is call the law. If they ask you to leave in the presents of LEO, and you don't. the officer can ask the owner/ mgr if they want file trespass charges against you. Keep min mind, a store owner/ mgr may ask you to leave their store for any reason, no shirt, no shoes, etc, . If you refuse. they can call LEO and may have you charged with trespass as well

If you have a permit. Going onto private property with a gun is not breaking any state laws here

Isn't the reality, whether oc or cc, you are not honoring the request?
