A \"REAL\" Chinese Tractor

I have posted this picture here since the title suits best. Although, as you can see from the picture, this may be better under "build it yourself"

My Brother in law and his wife were in China just before Christmas and adopted a lovely little girl.

While there, they were taken on various tours within China. One of the places they visited was a traditional co-operative farm. This was one of the better tractors being used.

If you are thinking this is just a mock-up, take a look at the second photograph. I have no idea what he has been hauling in the trailer, but note the hydraulic connections and the custom seat back /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Second picture showing a second tractor in operation.
Not sure if this is "Green" "Orange" or "Blue"
Perhaps a combination of all three and then some /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'd be afraid it would blow up. Looks like an "American" motor, however. Maybe an old Briggs? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Re: A \"REAL\" Chinese Tractor

Looks like a Chinese stationary engine or one on there walk behind tractors. It brings to mind necessity is the mother of all inventions. There were several home built tractors around here during the 40's and 50's. Ive even seen a few modern home builts that worked good. What comes to my mind is the farmer likes that tractor better than smelling the end products of what an ox ate while drivng the wagon lol. My cousins used to build belt drive tractors like that out of car parts to hunt off of, they looked similar. Best wished Taylor Lambert

It some advantageous features:

Don't have to spend money on comestic panels.
Easy access for maintenance and repairs.
Probably a real bear to stall- lots of torque

Just like to see a belt quard though.

As a side benefit.. if you ever felt like going on workers comp, you could just lean to your right a little.. course.. they probably don't have workers comp over there from the looks of it.. as they certaintly don't have anything like OSHA... as there isn't even the hint of a guard on that belt.

Besides accidentally falling into the belt.. I'de be afraid of it breaking and wacking me.. or sucking in debri...

Re: A \"REAL\" Chinese Tractor

I had a thought the other day ( wow! )anyway... We have our antique working tractors.. like my 52 8N and 54 NAA that I refurbed,.. what were the chineese using in the 50's... I don't recall ever seeing a picture of an antique chineese tractor.. anybody else?

I did notice that while the engines on thos tractors looked um... aftermarket... the basic frame and front end appeared similar to chineese tractors i say sold over here in the late 80's / early 90's.... they must have wore them out and retrofitted the most dangerous power plant they could find.... steam engines must not have been available...
