I don't know if they are the best out there. But a couple of neighbors have older Case and Iingersoll model tractors. The only reason I never bought one is they could runaway on a down hill run because of the hydraulic motor used to run transmission.
s1120 had some that he posted about. Click Here. He has not posted since last spring though.

I did hear on this site a few months back that the company went out of business... now why the website still works i dont know. I would tell ya that i like the throwback look of the tractor. It looks alot like the old cub cadets, simplicity, etc.

I had a dealer very close to me. Last year he sold the bussiness. Place no longer sells the product.
He sold the Case Ingersoll line for over 30 years.

I believe the company is still in business, they have a website here listing distributors and dealers, and I know the Grazer front deck mowers are still made.

Had a Case/Ingersoll 448 in the late 70's with an Onan 18 HP twin. It was a real nice machine, and the hydro and hydro equipment was a bit ahead of its time in the garden tractor world. When I was recently looking for a gas lawn/garden tractor after trading my Kubota garden tractor for a ZTR I tried to find an older Case/Ingersoll with no luck. The couple I found were a little pricey, as I'm sure the new ones are, but I also think they are a quality machine.

The history of Ingersoll goes back to old Colt brand, which was bought out by Case, and then Ingersoll. I heard a rumor that an investor in the New England area bought Ingersoll and plans to continue/re-start production after some updates; but I don't know if this is true.

A few years ago I had a Case/IH/Ingersoll that I used as a partial trade on a Honda Foreman 400 quad.

The Ingersoll is a neat tractor with it's vickers hydraulic drive, heavy steel channel frame, bar tread tires and neat orange paint. Mine had a Kohler electric start single and a 3 blade mid mount deck. The PTO was via belt from a snap clutch (similar to an air conditioning automotive clutch pack) but with mechanical over-center activation instead of electro magnetic. Mounted in front of the snap clutch was an aluminum oil cooler with a big plastic fan driven from the end of the crankshaft that went through the snap clutch. If I remember correctly, it had three ranges (geared) with hydraulic final drive. The hydraulic oil lubricated the gear case as well as provided oil for the pump so the seat got warm as the oil heated up. Neat tractor, should have kept it, but it was needing a new pump so I got rid of it.

I've seen pictures of them with Cat 0 hitches though I don't believe they could pull much, maybe a tiny single bottom plow or a little disc.

It was very well built though, heavy guage metal and diamond plate and real welded box section frame. Nothing like you buy today. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I guess I really was attracted to it because the Case orange reminded me of my Kubota and I like Kohler one lungers. They sound soooo sweet when they idle. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The Ingersoll company went into bankruptcy and was aquired by a zero turn mower manufacturer in Maine. Last I heard was that the company was moving operations from Wisconsin to Maine and was going to resume production, but I got that info over a year ago, and haven't heard anything since. The Ingersoll website still shows 2004 as the last copyright date, so that hasn't changed to indicate any recent developements.
