A Real lawn and garden tractor! Ingersoll

I liked having the hand lever for direction control. At least on a lawn mower of this size. I think you're right though, most people now expect foot pedals. I'm sure they could easily make that change to the new models.

I have owned an Ingersoll 4014 and thay are a very well built tractor. If you can find a used one, I would buy it. However, I would not recommend a new one. I purchased a Deere 2210 to replace my Ingersoll and there is no comparison. A sub CUT is far more capable and does not cost that much more.

I had a 1985 Ingersoll 448 with the 18hp Onan and 60" mower for 10 years, I got it with 450hrs. The tractor was a great garden tractor, like all the others said. It was fairly indestructible, Onan motor was great. The only real gripes I had with the tractor was it didn't have differential lock and it didn't lift the the mower completely off the ground, so it got in the way if you went into the woods or the garden with it.

However the mower deck was a real P.I.T.A., I wasn't all that fond of the snow blower either, I had it's occasional reoccurring problems too that would have me working on it in the dead of winter. After the 600hr mark I was constantly pouring time and money into the mower. The mower was also was a real pain to get on and off the tractor. So I just hated the mower. I wasn't to sad to see the whole thing go. I sold it with 1200hrs and the engine still had 135psi compression and burned no oil. Did I mention it had a great engine!

Last year I got a used Kubota BX, and I couldn't be happier with the tractor and mower. I really love the diesel and the 4wd, a much better designed tractor and mower deck. I just start it and use it, wife loves it too, but she didn't mind the Ingersoll either (she never worked on it). Her only complaint about the Kubota was the Ingersoll with it's tall rear tires rode smother over our mole hill/hole laden lawn.

I have had 4 of these , 1 tall, 2 shorts and one industrial loader, all very well built little tractors. A few years ago a dealer here started selling the Ingersol. They had one, 4 wheel drive, power steering, wide front and rear tractor tires. It was a super looking very tuff looking little tractor that I would have loved to have. $12, 499.00 was a little out of my range for it. I ended up buying a new 2005 model 2015 Mahindra with a loader and Wallenstein splitter for $1,000 more. I wish I still had the little Case loader, I used it a lot. John
