"I guess I see a similar problem from a different perspective. The job loss in your area is created by 2 factors, one is exporting jobs the other is yuppie urbanization".
I was in on moving many a company in the early 70's from New England to points south. The sole reason, taxes.. 10 to 12 or so years go by, and on rare occassions, I would visit (read deliver a new computer system) to one of those previously moved companies. What had changed was, the small hick town in the Carolina's and some of Georgia. all of a sudden needed bigger town halls, bigger post offices, schools, roads, a large road dpt, and finally town water and sewers,, Now they are complaining as loudly if not more that where they previously left. A governor by the name of Weld, saw this as an opportunity to get back, some of what was lost.. His argument was, WE HAVE the water, sewer, schools, etc, etc and it isn't being used anywhere near the original capacities or intent.. His idea did work to a certain extent. Still, no where as it should be. In the meantime, the so called know it all's, are infiltrating the back woods towns and bringing along with them, all these crazy requirements.. In my town and immediate surrounding towns, the farmers are gone, the elderly are being forced out by the week.. WHY, because some nut case needs street lights in the middle of nowhere,. they need this and that, all of which is useless or near useless.. I like to pick street lights as once being a town selectman, I asked in an open mtg one time, other than the few straying deer, who else do you think may need this street light? The other thing out your way, and especially Ohio,, is your strong unions... They push more jobs over seas than ten other problems.. The days of needing them, stopping child labor and most other problems that they originally addressed, are long gone.. Pay your dues so 50 fat cats have a job, upon which they demand and place unreasonable requirements on the employer.. Eventually the employer shuts down or more likely moves on to Mexico, Phillipines, China or other, where none of these problems exists because of tight controls.. Now I know this will rattle some and so be it.. As I said recently, a friend who painted Terex off road machines got 31 or so and hour. Health for the whole family, 5 weeks off, about 14 holidays, eye and dental and one heck of a retirement. Not enough, they strike and ask for 38 and hour immediately and a few more minor things thrown in... Guess what, it broke the bank and Terx left Cleveland... If it was mine, I would have pulled the plug long ago.. His 31 per hour had to cost that company 150 and hour by the time health, work comp, matching SS and taxes and all else was added in.. Yes sir, Boondox had it right, we reap what we sow.. By any measure, what I wrote here is my opinion and not that of Boondox or anyone else....
