These pics are from the summer. I do not have any recent pictures. The first and third pic are of Idiot. He is very mean just like his father was.

I did find a recent pic my friend took of Idiot. You can see his ears pinned back, he doesn't do that because he is happy:(

We name our deer when they earn a name. He started acting like an idiot before we started calling him that. We have a doe named Horse because she likes to horse play, and one named goofy that, well, her name is goofy for a reason:)

What are the laws regarding export of a male deer to another state? I know someone did that about 40 years ago near my place in Georgia, but it really needs to be done around here to help with the deer size.

I do not know all the state laws but New York will not allow captive deer to be released into the wild. Each state has their own laws regarding importing/exporting and transporting. To move a deer into another state you will have to find out the laws and get any permits for each state you will be traveling thru.

Holy Garbage!

Rob, I am sure you are used to those deer, but those things are monsters, what I would give to see one in my forest. Beautiful creatures.

Other than selling urine, how do you guys make money by raising deer? It didn't sound like you sold semen, do you just sell your deer to other farms, and if so, what kind of prices do you get for your deer. Thanks, and speedy rest of your recovery.

Sandman, I think with CWD, Michigan has outlawed all transportation of deer into or out of the state.

We do sell deer also but like most hobbies, the idea is to have fun. The money isn't as big an issue to my dad as long as it isn't costing too much. Selling urine helps offset the cost of the feed which is really the only expense now.

I am not sure what my dad charges for the deer he sells. I do know it all depends on what deer he is selling.

These deer look nice but I am use to seeing larger. I have been spoiled growing up and have seen a lot of the largest whitetails ever raised and harvested.

So raising the deer is really just a hobby for you? How did your family get into that? It is a unique hobby that seems really cool and I am sure gives you a unique perspective on whitetail deer.

My dad had friends who raised deer which started him thinking about it. Since he has always been fond of the whitetail deer it was a no brainer for him. We put the fences up and the deer in them in March of 97' and expanded the fences each year for about 5 years till we had plenty of room.

You do learn a lot about deer when you raise them. You see things that you would consider a once in a lifetime event if you saw it in the woods. Raising deer isn't easy by any means but it is a lot of fun.
