My heartfelt sympathy. I read your post blubbering like an idiot, because I to am being faced with the same decision you have just made.
I am not looking forward to losing my best buddy if 13 year's..As far as the tombstone I have used a combination of diamond cup grinder's, diamond blade's and rock chisel's with good result's on harder rock
Regard's
Sean

My sympathies to you. My old lab "Dually" is 13 and his days are getting shorter. He helped me meet my wife when he was just a pup and has been a constant companion to my girls as they've grown.

I have a nice spot beneath a grove of pines picked out for him, but I'm dreading when that day comes.

Better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all.

Easy to say, hard to live with.

This is one of the last pictures I took of him. It was just before my daughter's wedding. He was never handsome but even from the picture you can tell how sweet he was. He was the calmest, sweetest dog I've ever known.

I sure have sympathy for you guys and know how you feel. I did not get a new dog either, but started having kids instead (3). Now, my wife doesn't want a dog in the house, so we don't have one. I love dogs, but the vet bills, food and care are a big commitment. I will have another someday. They do leave a hole in your heart that takes a long time to heal.
A friend once told me "We had kids to prepare us for raising a dog. :D

That's a tough row you're in George. I wish I could tell you how to get to the end of it quickly but it doesn't work that way, at least not for people like us.
I do know that you are lucky. One look at those pictures and I can tell. It might not seem like it now, but you are. You had a great companion for a very long time. Dash loved you very much....yea.... you are a lucky guy.

He was only ever unhappy during the 15 minutes that we thought was 15 minutes too early for his dinner. ;-)
