A rear blade allows you to move snow when backing up. Less wasted motion. It also helps with traction when moving piles with the fel. It just make things go faster is all. If your content with what you have that's all that counts. I like your video's. Whoever took the latest storm is quite the videographer.

Thanks arrow, I hear you on the extra ballast. I never understood the rear blade, I guess from what I read on TBN people like them. I only have my driveway and my neighbors to do. It just seems a rear blade is a lot more work to operate. Besides why would I want it to go faster. We got a little snow, can't I play with my tractor for a little while?
Best thing about winter plowing, your tractor looks brand new and always super clean when working with snow, even the tires:thumbsup:

Nice video.Just curious why you don't use the backhoe for weight.I know when I had my L3240 there was a world of difference plowing snow with the backhoe on and off.I only ever tried once with it off to see the difference and never plowed without it again.I didn't have the weight of a cab but I did have loaded rears.

Remember it's just my driveway not a parking lot. I don't want to pull something around, I want to push, seating in the seat facing forward.

Here is a video with my B3030 with backhoe on, this was the first time I plowed in the snow back in Jan 2009.
I never plowed much with the backhoe after that. I loaded the tires and the B3030 took care of the driveway without problems. Even 2 years ago when we had storm after storm 30 36 inches of snow.
I like to be short and stubby free to turn on a dime. My backhoe on the tractor makes it 24 ft long. When ever you saw my wheels starting to spin in the video I had too much down pressure on the fel. The FEL on my 3240 seems very choppy (compared to my b3030) I have to lean to feather the control more.

No offense to Ted in that video, but he's not exactly doing a great job.

In your case WaxMan, I wouldn't change too much of your procedure, but having a rear blade down in back will leave a much cleaner path behind you and move the windrows off to the side. I do much the same as you, driving out of the garage and clearing as I go, except the front loader blazes the way as a rough "first pass" and the rear blade follows up with the finishing touch. It really has been an improvement over when I cleared snow with only the front bucket. I also like having a clearing implement on both ends of the tractor when working around our garage and parking area, as it seems like no pass of the tractor goes wasted -- I can push or pull from both ends as needed, and that really helps in tight spaces or up against buildings -- no need to turn around a lot or keep driving on snow and compacting it.

In my opinion, I would take a front blade over a rear blade all day long. I plowed for a few winters with rear blades on a BX-25 and B3030. A rear blade is better than nothing. It's also good for heavy, wet snow. But when the depth of the snow starts to get over 4 inches, you have to do a lot of extra work. And if you get a bad snow season, you run out of room to pack the snow. Here's what a bad winter looks like with a rear blade.
