I'm perfectly capable of scanning a barcode all by myself. I don't need someone to do it for me. Do you pump your own gas? If so, then please tell me what's the difference. As far as "putting people out of work", have you checked help wanted signs lately? There is no shortage of jobs.

Good luck with your $1500 truck. I can't imagine finding anything even remotely roadworthy for 3x that price.

We have too much manufacturing industry around here and as I said earlier that leaves little for the lower paying jobs.

Background check speaks for itself. Sometimes that rentals contracts are with government agencies, nuclear plants, refineries, ect..... yard guy can and will be used to help a tech and drivers with installs out in the field depending on whats being rented. If it's a water pump with a crap load of hose. The yard guy may be sent out to help set it up.

The capacity of the position did not require driving company on road vehicles. We perform some govt. contracting and this persons background will not be a red flag.
As a local employer, we have tons more applications than positions available. I cant speak to what goes on elsewhere. May be some places are hoping for more stimulus money/non-repayable loans?

Two things you missed from my original post. In the rental buisiness, a yard guy can very well need to drive a company vehicle on occasion. If they are slap busy, they could very well need to take a company vehicle across town to do a delivery or pick up. Or to get parts for one of the shop mechanics. A yard guy, isn't just a yard guy. He is a gopher and a laborer, and Jack of all trades. The second thing is he may very well need to enter a plant or refinery in his duties. If he can't pass the facilities background check, then he won't be let in side.

Third, it's about metrics. Background checks and driving records are looked at across the board.

A yard guy can't advance in the company without a clean driving record. And clean background check. And if the yearly background check comes back with a felony, well, the yard guy is not working there any more.

Third, the company uses the same requirements in all new hires. From an office secretary, to the yard guy, to a branch manager and higher. They have to have a clean driving record, and clean background check. No favoritism, no do as I say, not as I do.

I would dispose of and not repair the fridge as well as waive all of my rights to any future warranty, litigation, etc. I'm not sure how they would know if I disposed of the fridge or not.

Not sure if anything similar exists in your state, but here in N.H. there's a program that gives you a payment if you turn in a qualifying appliance with proof that it was replaced with a more energy efficient model. I think I got a total of $150 (2 separate checks) when I replaced a 20 year old fridge with a new one (an LG, not that it matters) last summer. They came and picked it up.
Not sure where the money came from, but it was administered thru the electric co.

Those "qualifying appliance" stipulations usually state that it must be "working". I've never taken 'em up on the offers, so I don't know if they check first...

This one is only 2 years old so prob wouldn't fit that program anyway working or not. I have a local appliance repair that is going to pick it up for parts. At least all of it may not end up on a landfill.
