Yeah, looks like somebody,,is getting rich,,,I ain't going to help them,,,we got a new generation now hitting their 50's,,they might not have as much luck with us,,,,thingy

Now I don't know whether the advertising rates, as posted, are correct or not, but assuming they are, and assuming you know what the membership dues are, do you really think they'll miss your dues?:D

Naturally, I don't agree with everything they do and say, and if anyone wishes to NOT be a member, I sure have no problem with that; it's strictly an individual choice. For me, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks; your mileage may vary.;)

AARP is NOT a democratic membership organization! My wife is a member but I will not join because of some of their policies plus they have too many things they are trying to sell you.

Vernon
I will never join because they are anti-gun!! Ain't no benefits that out weigh that in my book!!

AARP claims not to be a PAC, and in the technical sense they are not. They do routinely take positions on issues, sometimes blatantly, sometimes subtly by the way they "present" the issue. They have an immensely large audience and it seems to serve their own existence to convince as much of that audience as they can that someone is always threatening their benefits or well-being in some manner.

As Bird stated, there are clearly some benefits, and to each his own. My mother belongs and likes the Medicare supplemental insurance. I won't join because I disagree with virtually all of the positions they take and I don't see the economic benefits as outweighing that for me. Again, I agree with Bird that this is clearly one where YMMV. Investigate what the benefits for you would be and decide accordingly.

Yep,Mr. Bird, our milage varys. And to each his own.
No,they won't miss my dues,[mainly cause I ain't ever gave them any]. But like I said, this is a new generation they are trying to recruit,,and it might not be so rosy for them 10 years from now.
Besides all that stuff,,it is kinda wrong to send somebody 50 years old a thing from american retired people anyways, bet 98 percent of 50 year olds ain't retired,,send it to us at 60,they need to change their policy,[course, that would cut down money those rich cats are putting in their pockets],,and they might not be able to scare older people every election,,,thingy

Take a look at their advertising rates! $446,700.00 for a full page color ad for just one month. $1.2 million a year just from one advertiser.

If they sell a 1/6th page ad that's only $111,680.00 or $677,080 per page.

The 3 covers total about $1.6 million.

I have not seen the magazine in awhile but if they have 15 total ad pages plus covers they are taking in over $9,000,000.00 per month in advertising just from the magazine. They also have web advertising.

Would be interesting to crunch some numbers and see how that compares to ad space for the Super Bowl.

For the 2007 Superbowl the the average cost for a 30 second commercial was $2.6 million.

Yep, I've known military personnel who "retired" at 38. I retired 10 days before I turned 49. Of course most of us do find something else to do, working at least part time for a few years.:D
