About 1 in 100 breast cancer cases are men

Things are moving along quickly while it seems everything is at a stand still.

Tomorrow morning we meet with the plastic surgeon. We are opting for reconstruction immediately after the double mastectomy.

Today the surgeon called and the most recent MRI shows the cancer is growing rapidly, about 50% larger in the two weeks since the mammogram. now over 5 cm long. But it is only in the right breast which is a good thing. Next week we have bone scans and an MRI of the brain scheduled. The surgery will be a meeting of the schedules of the cancer surgeon and the plastic surgeon.

The great thing is my wife is in great spirits. And we've found out we have this huge support system. The Susan G Komen walk in Dallas is Saturday. One of the teams is Glenda's gals and Glenda's guys. I'm the only wearing the bright pink t that reads "Glenda's Guy".

and you too, having myself been there, done this, this is not an easy time for you, sometimes it seems worse
on the spouse...particularly guys who are just used to "fixing things". This isn't one you can fix, except through love, but your doctors hopefully
can. Best wishes for a full recovery and that your wife gets through the operations ok.

Harv, real men aren't afraid to wear pink!! This is me and the girls at last years Susan Komen 3-day walk. We have a blast with it every year. The girls have been training again for this years walk (in a few weeks) and bringing their special "flat friend" along. I've been taking photo's and providing support.

Thanks for the well wishes and prayers. In a couple of hours we will be where we have been waiting for the last month. We should know the bottom line of this cancer thing. The surgery is lined up for Wednesday the 28th.

We know that my wife has been worried about her general feeling of something wrong for over six months now. She has been having back pain more often and with increasing strength in that time. We know her shortness of breath has been worsening over that time too. Last week the pulomonologist said her lung capacity was 64% for her weight, age, and history. He would prefer to find out why she has the mosaic pattern MRI but that would probably take a couple of months, the aggressiveness of the cancer precludes that.

Today we meet with the oncologist and he will hopefully explain what the MRI's, CT scans, X Rays, blood tests, etc means. The lump in her right breast was the size of one of those peanut butter candies that is white with the black bars in it, think miniature domino, two months ago. Friday at the plastic surgeons office I asked him if the bulge in her breast was the cancer, he said yes, think small snickers bar.

Life as we know it is changing.

Prayers for you and your family Harv. Coming from a family that has been touched with it's share of cancer, I know the highs, lows, waiting and unknowns are excruciating and take their toll. I know you're there for Glenda, but make sure someone is there for you too.

I know you are focused on Glenda, but are you getting any time to relax? You know, putter in the shop or something, even for a few minutes here and there? Glenda and you are in my prayers.

Glenda, my mom went through this about 3 or 4 years ago. She has been fine since the radiation treatments ended and she's 86. We are praying for you!

Harv, as much as you can fix just about anything, this you will have to be Glenda's #1 helper. We are praying for you too.
