I saw it on Foxnews. Today they're saying that SA is "resistant" to allowing Americans use of their airfields to launch attacks at Afghanistan.

We should open up those Alaskan oilfields - maybe even help Russia with their fields in Siberia. Reduce the leverage that these states have on us. Jeez - as soon as we get that done maybe we should leave the Saudis to play with old ****** on their own for a while.

I guess the culturally appropriate term would be that they need a little separation of Mosque and State.

The Fox news website does have that story, and I found this on the ABC website.
Administration officials today praised the support they've received from other countries, including Saudi Arabia and Turkey. Although the Washington Post reported in today's editions that the Saudis were balking over U.S. use of a key command center on a Saudi military base for any air war against terrorists, The Associated Press reports a senior U.S. official as saying America has "a command and control center" with the Saudis that is "up and running and operational."
So, we seem to have two stories here. If S.A. is truly resistant I'm sure we will hear more about it in the next few days. If not the story will just sort of fade away.

those in the Arab world that now say they support us will leave us high and dry
Would that be so different than what the U.S. government has done so many times over the years? Our nation has left many countries high and dry, when our govt. decided our goals had changed.
It is the chances that the U.S. will have to accept.

Re: Loose Lips Sink Ships!

Hmm,

This information about where US forces are located in peacetime, what units are located at given bases, and even what those units are supposedly doing is not a secret in any way shape or form. Its freely available information. All one has to do is use the Internet, read certain publications at a library or if you are near such a base, listen to the local news. Fort Bragg as well as other bases have been on high levels of alert for weeks and months. Base and force protection has certainly been boosted as a concern and in actuality since the USS Cole was attacked.

Paper and broadcast outlets near bases provide lots of information during their reports. Having said that they do not know which units deploy. Especially Special Forces units. A Marine unit boarded ship on a regularly scheduled deployment. It was broadcast all over the place. Anyone who really wants to know this stuff can easily find out about these types of deployments. BUT just because they have been deployed or left their bases does not mean one knows where they are going or what they are going to do. Its hard to keep quiet when large numbers of people are moving through or from a community.

Now maybe the deployment information SHOULD be kept secret but at the moment it is not. Certainly which units are kept at which base is not secret information. With the exception of the Delta Team/Force and some other special ops units. They just dont exist! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
